She is survived by 5 daughters, Mary Frances Johnson, Faye Godsey, Jeanette Plunkett, Dean Dudley, and Sherry Heard; 2 sons, James Harold Williams, and Terry Lee Williams; 25 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She is survived by 1 daughter, Elizabeth Ann Ward (Gene); 3 grandsons, Luke (Diane) Collier, Mark (Kim) Collier, and Tony Ward; 7 great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. David Leon Barnhill
November 14, 1935 - May 13, 2009



David Leon Barnhill (1935-2009) age 73 of Haleyville, AL died May 13, 2009 at Shelby Baptist Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Barnhill and Pearl Olean Barnhill; 4 brothers, Jesse Barnhill, Clinton Barnhill, Robert "Buggs" Barnhill, George "Sonny" Barnhill; and 2 sisters, Sarah "Sis" Whitehead and Olean Robinson.

He is survived by his brother Wade Barnhill of Starkville, Mississippi, his loving wife Patsy Barnhill; his two sons David Bryan Barnhill and Bill Barnhill; and his daughter Angela Plowman; 3 grandsons; and 4 granddaughters.

Mr. Barnhill was a former Executive V.P. and General Manager of Winston Furniture of Haleyville, Alabama. He was also a Veteran.

Visitation will be held Friday May 15, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at Gardendale Rideout's Chapel, Gardendale, AL.  Funeral services will be held at Gardendale Chapel Saturday, May 16, 2009, at 2:00 p.m.

Walter B. "Walt" Hall, age 89, of Hamilton, Alabama passed away Friday, May 15, 2009 at the North MS. Medical Center.

"Walt" Hall was born July 15, 2009, in Marion County, Alabama to Robert Monroe and Willie Elizabeth Hall.  He was retired from the State of Alabama Highway Department where he was a Heavy Equipment Operator.  He was also a Veteran.

He is survived by 1 son, Jimmy Hall and his wife Carol; 3 grandchildren, Leigh Hall Bleazard and her husband, John, Amy Hall Morris and her husband, Gene, Jaime Hall Humphries and her husband, Aaron; 6 great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Bleazard, Drake Bleazard, Drake Morris, Katie Humphries, Will Humphries, and Carter Humphries.

He was preceded in death by his wife Frances Hall.

Dorothy Eugenia Riddle Stewart, passed away.

She was born October 27, 1933 in Haleyville, Alabama to the late Roberta Williams Riddle and Lloyd Riddle. She was a graduate of Haleyville High School. She worked 37 years at Southern Swagelok Company. She was a member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church and an avid Bingo player.

She is survived by 1 son, Robert Wayne (Tish) Stewart, of Hoover, AL.; 1 daughter, Dianne Stewart (Jimmie) Johnson, of Hoover, AL.; 1 grandson, Peter Stewart Johnson; 1 granddaughter, Tayla Pharr; 1 sister Margie Hill, of Minor, AL.; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.

AL., passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at her residence.

She was lifetime resident of Franklin County and member of the Baptist church. She was retired from BellSouth.

Survivors include son, DeWayne Greenhill and Peggy; sister, Willodean Shewbart and husband, Lelion; granddaughters, Brandie Mitchell and husband, Brian, Brittany Greenhill; great-grandchildren, Braden Mitchell, Bryson Mitchell and special friend, Britney Ferguson; sisters-in-law, Odessa Greenhill and Lois Everett Posey.

Pallbearers will be Arlin Greenhill, Danny Shewbart, Donald Gober, Ray Massey, Carl Hendrix, Randall Everett and Rodney Irving.

She was preceded in death by parents, Clive and Mary "Willie" Duncan Hendrix; husband, Arvil Greenhill; and daughter, Kathy Greenhill.

She will be forever missed by family and many friends.

He was born August 22, 1955 in Terrell, AZ., to Leonard Felix and Mary Louise Warren Payne. He was a welder and attended the Church of God. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard for thirteen years.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lillie Ann Payne, of Golden, MS.; one son, Billy Joe Payne and wife, Jamie, of Golden, MS.; one grandson, Braxton Joe Payne, of Golden, MS.; one brother, Randy Payne, of Golden, MS.; two sisters, Patricia Hollimon and husband, Tommy, of Russellville, AL., and Glenda Kiddy, of Red Bay, AL.; two sisters-in-law, Brenda Spencer and husband, Jerry, of Fulton, MS. and Shirley Phillips and husband, Mike, of Pensacola, FL.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leonard Carroll Payne and Bobby Gene Payne; one sister Katrina Pauline Pendergraph; one niece and one nephew.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Carlos Lee Mitchell; children, Valerie Vanessa McMahan and husband, Ernest, Timothy Lee Mitchell and wife, Danielle, Christopher Lee Mitchell and wife, Angie, Erica Lynn Horsley and husband, Derrick; siblings, Kathrine Snow, Harold Wright, Donald Wright, Sheila Garrett, Curtis Wright, Billy Wright, Elizabeth Eddy; grandchildren, Jacob, Theodore, Jesse, Amy, Austin and Canaan; and a host of nieces & nephews.

Leonard "Marshall" McCarley, age 91, of Spruce Pine, AL.,. passed away Friday, May 8, 2009, at Helen Keller Hospital.

Mr. McCarley was a lifelong resident of Franklin County, AL., and a self-employed home builder. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, in Russellville, AL. where he served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gussie McCarley, of Russellville; 1 daughter, Judy Vandiver and husband, G.W., of Spruce Pine, AL.; 1 sister, Kathleen Perry, of Streator, IL.; 1 brother, Leaborn McCarley and wife, Bertie, of Muscle Shoals, AL.; 2 grandchildren, Tracy Vandiver, of Spruce Pine, Shelia Baker and husband, Tim, of Russellville, AL.; 1 great-grandchild, Justin Cornelison and wife, Tiffany; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Josie McCarley; sister, Pauline Pounders; brothers, Woodrow, Arnie, Hugo, and Oscar.

He was born January 10, 1937 in Russellville, AL., the son of Ralph Rivers Richeson and Pearl Adell Hendrix Richeson.  Arriving in Rockford in 1948, Norman attended Morris Kennedy School and graduated from Rockford East High School in 1955. A member of UAW Local 592, he retired after 30 years from Sundstrand Aviation and he was a member of the Windsor Athletic Club and Lombardi Club. Motorcyclist, car buff, Chicago Bears fan, bowler, water skier and boating enthusiast, Norm will be missed by his family and many friends.

He is survived by 2 sisters Ruth Spooner and husband, Ray and Irene Sedeora and husband, Tej; 2 brothers, Aaron Richeson and wife, Trudy and Cedric Richeson and wife, Emily; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Neil Spooner.

Thanks to attending nurses and Passages Hospice for their care. Also thanks to special friends Lou Bowman, Bart Cagnoni, Shan Sundaram and others who comforted him in his final days.

    Douglas B. Green, 89, of Hamilton passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2009.

    Born on February 2, 1920 in Marion County, he was the son of the late Lemuel Augustus Green, Bertha Elizabeth Burleson Green and step-mother, Icy Estelle Northam Green.

    He was a WWII Veteran, serving in France and Germany while being attached to Patton's Third Army.  He was an employee of the Alabama Department of Public Safety for 25 years.  He was a member of Hamilton First United Methodist Church.

    He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 65 years, Mary Jean Brooks Green, and son, Douglas B. Green, Jr.  Survivors include a son, Jimmy (Judy) Green and a daughter, Mary Kathryn Green Estes (Tommy), and adopted son, Bob Straub (Ladawn); grandchildren, John David Garrison (Jennifer), Angie Jean Green Warren (Jon Alan), Jamey Green (Emily), Gena Frederick Pickle (Scotty); 8 great-grandchildren, Emma Caroline Warren, Maggie Brooks Warren, Jackson Douglas Green, Mary Claire Pickle, Chloe Scott Pickle, Chelsea Underwood, John David Garrison, Jr., and Elizabeth Grace Garrison.

    Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Hamilton First United Methodist Church with burial in Cedar Tree Cemetery in Hackleburg.  Mac Buttram was the officiating Minister.  Pallbearers were James W. Nellie Weeks Barnes Lindley, age 82, passed away Friday, May 29, 2009, at her residence after a sudden illness.

A native of Hamilton, Alabama, she was born Oct. 29, 1926, to Dewy Francis and Lydia McKay Weeks. She lived in Lee County most of her life. She worked for Lucky Star Industries for over 40 years and was a supervisor at the time of her retirement. She was active in the Belden Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include one daughter, Shelia Barnes Holley (Larry) of Baton Rouge, La.; one granddaughter, Chad Holley (Clarie) of Los Angeles, Calif.; one grandson, Michael James Holley (Kathryn) of Nashville, Tenn.; great-grandchildren, Nate and Jack, and Harper and Kate; many sisters-in-law, nices and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Jim Edd Barnes; her second husband, Shelly Lindley; one son, Michael Edward Barnes; two sisters, Lula Clark Beaty and Joann Gable; and one brother, Oscar Weeks.

Austin Dale Rhodes, age 16, of Fayette, Alabama, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2009, as the result of an automobile accident in Tuscaloosa County.

Austin was born December 19, 1992, in Tupelo, MS. and formerly lived in Booneville, MS. for 14 years. He was an active member of the Southside Baptist Church and the Swam, Swag, Souled Out and Church Youth Group. He was a 10th grade student at the Fayette County High School and a member of the Fayette County High School Band and Choir. He was an Eagle Scout and loved hunting Turkey and Deer.

He was a hard working member of Martin Hill Free Will Baptist Church and he enjoyed serving in the Sign Language Ministry there. He enjoyed playing football and the outdoors and he was an avid yo-yoist.

He is survived by his parents, Jamie and Sondra Nanney; a sister, Cheyenne Nanney of the home; his grandparents, Dexter Nanney Sr. and Sherry Nanney of Booneville, and Lonnie Stafford Sr., and Michael and Glenda Schneider of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his great-grandparents, Bessie Mae Nix of Booneville, and John S. O’Rourke of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two aunts, Kandy Rhodes (Chris) of Fayette, Ala., and Suzette Thomas (Rick) of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two uncles, Ricky Nanney (Kristie) of Dumas, and Shawn Stafford (Samantha) of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and his God-parents, George and Maureen Ramsey of Colorado Springs, Colo.

He was preceded in death by grandfathers, James Nix Sr. and C.P. Nanney; grandmother Evelyn Nanney; great-grandmother Mary O’Rourke; aunt Wanda Nanney; uncle Lonnie Stafford Jr.; and special cousin, Jon Andy Nanney.

Betty Fay Mobley, age 70, of Vina, Alabama, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009.

Betty Jo Hall

Betty Jo Hall, age 75, of Russellville, Alabama, passed away Friday, May 29, 2009, at Helen Keller Hospital.

Funeral service, 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 2009, at First United Methodist Church, of Russellville, AL. Clint Busler and Alan Beasley officiating. Burial in Knights of Pythias Cemetery. Visitation, before the service from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at the church.

Mrs. Hall was a native of Haleyville, Alabama, but had lived in Russellville for 55 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Russellville and affiliated with the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Eastern Star. She retired from Russellville Ready Mix as bookkeeper after 35 years.

Survivors include daughters, Nancy Jo Davis, of Russellville, Penny Hall Wells and husband, Tim, of Muscle Shoals; special grandsons, Tanner and John Wells; also Deanna Hitt, Shannon Hall, John Lawson, Phillip, Parker, and Kathryn Gargis; brothers, Isaac and Carlos Burleson, of Haleyville, Taft Burleson, of Florence, and Raymond Burleson, of Cullman.

Maggie L. White, age 85, of Beaverton, AL, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009 at the Northwest Medical Center in Winfield, AL.

She was born in Marion County to the late Marcellus N. and Mary Dora Sizemore Lockhart and the wife of the late Joe Nelton White. Maggie had lived in the Beaverton area most all her life and was a member of the Eastern Star, the ladies VFW, served on the advisory board of The First State Bank of the South, and was an active member of the  Beaverton United Methodist Church. She had retired from the McCoy Manufacturing Plant and was Co-Owner of White’s Tax Service.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Diane White Hankins and husband, Grover of Macon, MS., and Vickie White Norwood of Beaverton, AL.; 3 grandchildren, Mary Anna Ford and husband, Douglas of Columbus, MS, Joe Norwood and Will Norwood Both of Fayette, AL, 1 great-grandson, Dalton Ford, a very special friend Billy “Demp” Stanford, and host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Nelton White; parents, Marcellus N. and Mary Dora Sizemore Lockhart; 5 sisters; and 6 brothers.

Ms. Martha Jo Warren Noe

Ms. Martha Jo Warren Noe, age 74, of Sulligent, AL passed away on Monday, May 25, 2009 at Northwest Medical Center in Winfield, AL.

Visitation, at the Otts Funeral Home on Thursday afternoon 3:00 until service time at 6:00 P.M. Funeral services, Thursday, May 28, 2009 at 6:00 P.M. from the Otts Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Officiating minister will be Bro. William Kirkman. Serving as active pallbearers will be Jeremy Flippo, Al Noe, Donny Noe, Chris Smith, Dan Glasgow, Tim Duncan and Eddie Hankins. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be David Noe and the staff of the Care Center of Vernon.

Ms. Noe was born October 20, 1934 in Lamar County, AL., to the late Joe and Katie Pitts Warren. She was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. Ms. Noe had previously worked as a babysitter. She loved her family and friends and especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by 1 son, Donald (Sherry) Noe, Gattman, MS.; 1 daughter, Lisa (Paul) Flippo, Sulligent, AL.; 1 daughter-in-law, Wynell Noe, Vernon, AL.; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren (and 1 on the way); 6 step-grandchildren; 15 step-great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Shirley (Benoit) Duncan, Vernon, AL., Eloise (Cloyce) McDaniel, Vernon, AL., Rachel (Charles) Hankins, Sulligent, AL., Edna Glasgow, Vernon, AL., Frank (Dorothy) Warren, Sulligent, AL., Billy Joe Warren, Sulligent, AL., David (Sandra) Warren, Hahira, GA., and Betty Warren, Augusta, GA.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
