Mr. Darrel Baker

Darrel Baker, age 83, of Detroit, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at his residence.

Visitation, 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 23, 2010, prior to the funeral service, 2:00 p.m., at the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial in Barnesville Cemetery , Hamilton, Alabama.

Mr. Baker was born February 23, 1927, in Kansas, to the late Glenn and Edith Huss Baker. He was a Veteran of the US Navy, a retired Electrician and a member of the IBEW Local Union #11.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Webb Baker; children, Pamela (Jim) Root, Patricia (Don) Scuteri, Paula (Tony) Yoro, and Kay (Bobby) Herndon; 7 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Edith Huss Baker; and 1 son, Guy E. Baker.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Fund.

She is survived by her children, Angelina (Wayne) Gardner; and Christopher Cox; grandchildren, Alasia, Kali, Jessica, Brian and Jeremy Gardner, Caitlyn, and Christian Darracott; her mother, Mildred Green Watkins; and her brother, Tim (Barbara) Watkins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Billy Watkins; and daughter, Law Angel Cox.

Brother Jerry Austin Jenkins, age 74, of Roebuck Parkway Church of Christ, Birmingham, Alabama, passed away Tuesday, October 26, 2010 after an extended hospitalization. Bro. Jenkins served as minister for Roebuck Parkway Church of Christ and hosted The Living Word television broadcast for 44 years (the longest running religious broadcast in the State of Alabama). He was founder of Maywood Christian Camp, co-founder of Jefferson Christian Academy, and co-founder of Birmingham Bible School for the Deaf. He also served on the board of directors for Maywood Christian Camp, Jefferson Christian Academy, Rainbow Omega, and served on the Advisory Board for Freed-Hardeman University. He and his wife Mamie were the first missionary couple to Belize, Central American in 1969. He conducted over 100 evangelistic campaigns and preached in all of those campaigns. Bro. Jenkins is survived by his wife, Dr. Mona L. Jenkins; 4 children, Jeff A. Jenkins (Laura), Carey Jenkins, Dale Jenkins (Melanie) and Melissa Jenkins; 2 sisters, Barbara Flatt (Ottis) and Dot Watson; 1 brother, Dan Jenkins (Judy); 10 grandchildren, London, Brandon, Philip, Amanda, Andrew, Jeremy, Ren, Blake, Drake and Kelsi ; 3 great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Mamie Frame Jenkins.
