Evelyn Kennedy, age 86, of Guin, AL, died Thursday, November 1, 2007 in the Northwest Medical Center in Winfield, AL.

Born in Fayette County, AL. She is the daughter of the late George Ed and Carrie Marinda Roberts Crews and was the Wife of the late Obern Kennedy. She had lived in Guin most of her life and was of the Baptist Faith.

She is survived by Several Nieces and Nephews.

She was preceded in death by her Husband, Obern Kennedy, Two Sons, John Everett Kennedy and an infant son, Five Sisters, Ethel Markham, Edith Black, Ellen Gilmore, Jewel Crews and Maxine Robertson, and Two Brothers, Emil Crews and George Crews.

Mr. Bruce Wilson, age 79, of Hamilton, Alabama, passed away Friday, November 9, 2007 at his residence.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Kitty Akers Wilson, and two sisters, Ruth Palmer of Hamilton and Susie Davis of Wadsworth, IL. Other survivors include sister-in-law, Inez Wilson of Blacksburg, VA. and special brother-in-law Wayde Akers of Wildwood, IL. and special nephew, J.L. Loman C. Millican, age 78, of Detroit, Alabama, passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2007, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Hamilton, Alabama.

He was born March 14, 1929, in Marion County, Alabama, to the late Arvil and Velma Sanderson Millican. He was a United States Army Korean War veteran, where he served as a medic. He was a member of Pleasant Site Free Will Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Millican, and an infant brother.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 20, 2007, at 11 a.m. from the Otts Funeral Home Chapel in Sulligent with burial in the Pleasant Site Cemetery. Bro. Charles Flippo was the officiating minister.

GATTMAN – James “Harold” Wise, 80, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, at Baptist Hospital-East in Memphis.

He was born Dec. 27, 1926, in Monroe County to the late Lloyd and Lillie Williams Wise. He was a member of the Gattman Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the American Legion in Amory. He worked for several years at Marathon and he enjoyed fishing.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Otts Funeral Home Chapel in Sulligent, Ala., with Bro. Jackie Pate officiating. Burial will be in the Lockhart Cemetery in Gattman.

Survivors include his wife, Johnnie Mae Wise of Gattman, one son, Glenn Wise of Sulligent, Ala.; two grandchildren, Dustin Wise and Tiffany Wise; one brother, Gene Wise of Gattman; and two sisters, Virginia Webb of Gattman and Dorothy Whitaker of Hamilton.

VANN, OPAL BLACKMON MRS., age 90, of Tupelo, MS, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2007.

Mrs. Vann was born on May 19, 1917 to Alfred and Mary Blackmon. Mrs. Vann lived most of her adult life in Attalla, Alabama, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. In earlier years she owned Opal's Beauty Shop and, along with her husband, started Vann Express. She was active in many garden and civic activities. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of seventy years, Garner Vann, and six siblings.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Sims (Bob); granddaughter, Emily Westbrook (Wes); great-grandchildren, Cameron Westbrook and Amanda Westbrook, Tupelo, MS; brother, Emory Blackmon (Mae), Pickerington, Ohio; sister, Frances Moore, Gadsden, AL; and many long time friends.

Maimie Ruth Meharg Warren, age 84, of Winfield, AL., passed away Sunday, November 18, 2007 at Sunset Nursing Home in Guin, AL.

Born on Oct. 24, 1923, in Walker County, she was the daughter of the late George Allen and Mamie Bell Lazenby Mann. She was a life-long resident of Winfield and she was a previous resident of Brilliant. She was previously employed at Reltoc Mfg. in Winfield. She was a member of the Friends of the Library and Booklovers Club and the Winfield First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a son, William Allen "Spot" Meharg; daughters, Melba (Homer) Willougby and Frances (W.H.) Box, all of Winfield; grandchildren, Angie Meharg McCaleb, Tracy Meharg Loveless, Lisa Box Tesney, Curtis Willougby and Scott Willougby; sister, Gladys Webster of Albertville; nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

COOK, BETTY JEAN, of McCalla, AL, age 71, died Friday, November 16, 2007 after a lengthy illness.

A native of the Unity Community east of Saltillo and longtime resident of Mooreville, MS, she was born July 24, 1936 to the late Leeman L. and Madie Lee Young Hester. Her husband of 42 years, Hoyle Cook, preceded her in death July 8, 2006. She was a member of Mantachie Church of Christ.

Born on Feb. 9, 1948, in Marion County, she was the daughter of the late Hal and Jennie Lee Shirey Guin. She was a life-long resident of Winfield; she raised bird dogs and quail and loved animals. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Roy Benton.

Born May 29, 1916, in Lamar County, he was the son of the late Lenard T. and Dovie Arminda King Nelson. He attended the Byrd - Detroit Elementary School. He was a graduate of Hamilton High School. He received a bachelor of science degree from Mississippi State University and a master ’s degree from Auburn University. He taught Vocational Agribusiness for two years at Berry and then retired from Hubbertville with 38 years of service. He was the Mayor of Glen Allen for two terms and was instrumental in the Incorporation of the town and establishing the water system to serve the community. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club in Winfield, Retired Teacher ’s Association of Fayette County, and a member of the Glen Allen Free Will Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughter, Jane Cahela, Valrico, FL; grandsons, Brandon and Ryan Cahela, Valrico, FL; special friend and caregiver, Gail Bircheat, Glen Allen; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

LOS ANGELES, CA – Dick Wilson, the character actor and pitchman who for 21 years played an uptight grocer begging customers ''Please, don't squeeze the Charmin,'' died Monday, Nov. 19, 2007. He was 91.

The man famous as TV's ''Mr. Whipple'' died of natural causes at the Motion Picture & Television Fund Hospital in Woodland Hills, said his daughter Melanie Wilson, who is known for her role as a flight attendant on the ABC sitcom ''Perfect Strangers.''

Wilson made more than 500 commercials as Mr. George Whipple, a man consumed with keeping bubbly housewives from fondling toilet paper. The punch line of most spots was that Whipple himself was a closeted Charmin-squeezer.

The first commercial aired in 1964 and by the time the campaign ended in 1985 the tag line and Wilson, a former Canadian airman and vaudeville veteran, were pop culture touchstones.

He also played a drunk on several episodes of ''Bewitched,'' as appeared as various characters on ''Hogan's Heroes,'' ''The Bob Newhart Show,'' and Walt Disney productions.

ANAHEIM, CA - Patricia Crane, widow of the actor Bob Crane of Hogan's Heroes" and the actress who played Col. Klink's sexy blond secretary Hilda on "Hogan's Heroes" has died. She was 72.

Patricia Crane died of lung cancer on Oct. 14, 2007, a spokeswoman for the Orange County coroner's office confirmed Monday. On stage, Crane was known as Sigrid Valdis.

LOS ANGELES - Donda West, mother of Kanye West and former chairwoman of Chicago State University's English department, has died, a spokesman for the rapper said. She was 58.

Donda West died Saturday night in Los Angeles, said the spokesman.

Mrs. Chaffin was born in Alexandria City, Ala. and moved to Andrews, Texas at a young age. She attended Andrews High School and later met the love of her life, "Jim", in Shreveport, LA. They raised three sons, and, to Mrs. Nell, there was nothing too good for her three boys. She worked with children's ministries throughout her life in several churches. The love of children and her family were her great strengths.

Survivors include her husband of over 56 years, James "Jim" Chaffin; her sons, Carl W. Chaffin (Becky) of Bessemer, Jerry W. Chaffin (Helen) of Cottondale, and Tommy Chaffin (Christine) of Yorktown, VA.; her sisters, Betty Ann Jacks of Shreveport, LA. and Estelle Bradford of El Paso, Texas; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Born on May 12, 1927, in Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late Van and Theoda Webster. She lived most of her life in Winfield. She was a graduate of Winfield City High School. She was also a graduate of Mt. Berry College in Rome, GA., and later received her masters degree in education from Mississippi College for Women in Columbus, MS. She taught school in Lamar County for 32 years. After retirement, she taught “adults to read” classes for several years. She also taught Sunday School and Girls in Action classes for many years at the First Baptist Church in Vernon, where she was a member. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, United Daughters of the Confederacy and Retired Teachers Association.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy Neil Jones; brothers, Van Webster, Jr., Sherman, Texas and Max Webster, St. Charles, MO.; and sister, Marie Webster Cook, Winfield.

Donald Watkins, age 70, Winfield, Alabama, passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2007, at his residence.

Born on Aug. 22, 1937, he was the son of the late W.A. “Tommy” and Ona Watkins. He was a 1957 graduate of Fayette County High School. He was a United States Air Force veteran. He retired from 3M with 32 years of service, where he received the 3M Ambassador Award. He was a life-long member of the Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandparents Crockette and Mattie Watkins and John Monroe and Effie Meadows.

William Esdell Webb, age 85, of Winfield, Alabama, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2007, in the V.A. Medical Center in Tuscaloosa.

Born on June 25, 1922, in Marion County, he was the son of the late James Henry and Sarah Dickinson Webb. He was a life-long resident of Winfield in the Brookside Community. He was a graduate of Brilliant High School. He was a United States World War II Army veteran. He was retired as a coal miner at North River in Berry with 40 years of service. He was a member of American Legion Post 100 in Winfield and UMWA Local 20.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Randy L. Webb; sisters - Oma Mullinix, Lois Jackson, Ethel Hines and Gladys Franks and brothers, Ola, Vada, Vander and Vince Webb.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Gaylon Smith. James Berlin Eddy, age 74 of Brilliant, died Thursday, November 1, 2007 at Northwest Medical Center in Winfield. Berlin was born December 5, 1932 in Marion County to William Dowell Eddy and Donnie Alice Hudson Eddy. He was a resident of Brilliant most of his life; where he attended Brilliant High School and Brilliant Free Will Baptist Church. He retired from Mutual Savings Life Insurance as a Sales Representative. He had also worked with American General and Interstate Life. Berlin was also a past member of the Brilliant Lions Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Eugene, Junior, Ellie Hugh, and Carl Raymond Eddy; and a sister, Janice Eddy. He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Eddy; three sons, Mac Eddy of Pinson, AL, Mark (Linda) Eddy of Remlap, AL, and Joey (Kim) Eddy of Haleyville; one daughter, Kathy (Richard) Coyne of Trussville; five grandchildren, Patrick Coyne, Allison Coyne (Drew) Hammond, Ashley Eddy, Whitney Eddy, and Courtney Eddy; three brothers, Erskine Eddy of Brilliant, Dale Eddy of Guin, and Gerald Ray Eddy of Rockford, IL; two sisters, Irene Dees of Rockford and Lorraine Foss of Viroqua, WI; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Rev. C.G. McNeal age 79 of Guin, passed away Saturday, November 3, 2007 at his residence. He was born June 3, 1928 in Tallassee, Al. a son of F.J. and Annie Wheeler McNeal. He was a Church of God minister for 50 years before his retirement at Brilliant Church of God. As well as a minister he was a carpenter. He built new churches and parsonages at every church he served. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Gerald and Danny McNeal, a brother, Tom McNeal and a sister, Dorie Beck.

He is survived by his wife, Opal Norris McNeal of Guin; a son, Noel McNeal of Guin; a daughter, Rachel E. (David) Self of Brilliant; three grandchildren, Dylan W. Self, Lauren A. Self and Kimberly Cheyanne McNeal; and three sisters, Margie Carter of Prattville, Omelia Baker and Geraldine Cole of Tallassee, Al; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Services were held Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the Winfield Church of God. Burial followed in the West Alabama Memorial Gardens with Stan Holder and Eddie Williamson officiating. Eva Mae Files Tyra, age 93 of Winfield, died Thursday, November 8, 2007 at Golden Living Center in Winfield. Eva was born October 26, 1914 in Fayette Co. to Jack and Alfia Blanchard Files. She was a resident of Fayette Co. most of her life and was a member of Piney Grove Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Tyra, Sr.; a son, Larry Gale Tyra; a daughter, Betty Joyce Tyra; a brother, James Harvey Files; and two sisters, Belle Rozell and Mandy McKee. Eva is survived by two sons, William (Katherine) Tyra, Jr. and James Thomas (Janie) Tyra both of Winfield; two daughters, Julia Mae Patton of Brewton, AL and Shelvy Jean Coprich of Compton, CA.; eleven grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Mrs. Anna Lois Birchfield Key, age 75 of Brilliant, passed away Friday, November 9, 2007 in the DCH Regional Medical Center at Tuscaloosa. Mrs. Key was born on June 25, 1932 in Marion Co. a daughter of Girdley and Delmar Willcutt Birchfield; lifelong resident of Brilliant; widow of Lynu Key; retired from Brilliant Mfg; and a member of the Church of Christ. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Lorene Fuller. Survivors include three sons, Lannie (Glenda) Key and Dannie (Linda) Key, both of Brilliant and Christopher (Sonya) Key of Winfield; seven grandchildren, Angie Smith, Sandy Markham, Wesley Key, Michael Key, Danielle Hood, Kyle Key and Cassie Voss; host of great-grandchildren; four sisters, Girlene Hawkins of Winfield, Dell Ann Nichols, Teresa Birchfield and Gail McKissick, all of Tuscaloosa; nieces, nephews and other relatives. Kenneth Curry Farris, age 65 of Eldridge, died Friday, November 9, 2007 at his residence. Mr. Farris was born May 15, 1942 in Walker Co. to George Franklin Farris and Emma Jane Norris Farris. He was a lifelong resident of Eldridge where he was a member of Eldridge Church of Christ. He was a graduate of Hubbertville High School and retired from Drummond Coal Co. in Jasper. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Farris; and a brother in-law, Kelly Doyle.
