Edith Nell Chaffin, age 76, of Coker, formerly of Guin, AL, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, at Hospice of West Alabama.
Mrs. Chaffin was born in Alexandria City, Ala. and moved to Andrews, Texas at a young age. She attended Andrews High School and later met the love of her life, "Jim", in Shreveport, LA. They raised three sons, and, to Mrs. Nell, there was nothing too good for her three boys. She worked with children's ministries throughout her life in several churches. The love of children and her family were her great strengths.
Survivors include her husband of over 56 years, James "Jim" Chaffin; her sons, Carl W. Chaffin (Becky) of Bessemer, Jerry W. Chaffin (Helen) of Cottondale, and Tommy Chaffin (Christine) of Yorktown, VA.; her sisters, Betty Ann Jacks of Shreveport, LA. and Estelle Bradford of El Paso, Texas; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Isaac Newton Baker and Annie Suzanne Baker; her son, Bobby Glen Baker; her brother, Michael Baker; and her sister, Shirley Sue Trigg.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North with Rev. Troy Dixon and Rev. Brannon Pinion officiating.
Graveside services will follow at 2 p.m. in Piney Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Paul Chaffin, Jack Mixon, Tony Chaffin, Roy Kelley, Bank Chaffin, Danny Atkinson, and Willie "Bill" Smelley. Honorary pallbearers are members and friends of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, friends and neighbors of Coker Community, AMR Ambulance ICU 2nd Floor and 7th Floor West, nurses and staff of Hospice of West Alabama, and Rev. Billy and Sister Teresa Lollar.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404.
