Joseph was a member of the
Hamilton High School Graduating Class of 1966 along with the editor of these obituaries
(Judy Webb Mays). Julia Mae Williams Owsley, Joseph's ex-wife and mother
of his children was there to support their children and grandchildren and
family. She was a member of our Class of 1966 as was Joseph. Thanks to Larry Lindsey,
another classmate, for the information he sent to
me. If anybody wants to send thoughts or remembrances about Joseph, please send
them to my email, jmays@49countynews.net
and I will print them. Pictures would be great!
I attended Joseph's wake and
then his funeral service and I have to tell you how moved I was by it. His
two granddaughters gave heartfelt talks about their "Papa Joe". Angie's
husband, Jim Ward, shared some of his thoughts and feelings about Joseph
that we could all hope our 'in-laws' would say about us after we're gone.
Joseph was truly loved and respected by his family and I find great comfort in
that. I wish I could have known him in these years since we graduated high
school together but it was not to be. I am so glad that our class rallied
round to support the family and show just how much Joseph meant to us.
