He was born in Ralph, AL on June 15, 1927 to the late Lonnie and Minnie Burns.

After attending school in Ralph and Tuscaloosa, Manaly, known as "LM" to family

and friends, joined the United States Navy at the age of 17. He then served

during WWII and the Korean Conflict. One of the things he loved most about the

Navy was traveling the world and sailing on large ships. After a tour of duty in

Guam and the Philippines aboard the USS Wasp, he completed his Navy career on

the USS Chewaucan and retired in 1964 after 21 years of service. He then

returned to Winfield, AL and began a second careet as a security officer at 3M.

After that retirement, he started his third career as a greeter at the Wal-Mart

store in Winfield. It was in that last job that he could greet and see many of

his friends and family that he had worked with and known through the years. More

than anything, LM loved his wife and family. During one of his visits home in

Tuscaloosa, he met his love and life long mate, Eulene Elliott of Winfield. They

were married on June 21, 1952. He was a member of Gu-Win Baptist Church.

Through the years he has served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and church

leader to many. He lived by example and one of his main purposes in life was to

show the love of God and to lead others to Christ.

He is now survived by Eulene; sons Danny (Shannon) of Hoover,

Lonnie "Butch" of Columbus, OH, and Richard "Dickey" (Cindi) of Winfield. He is

also survived by the real joys in life, his grandchildren, SkyLa Burns, Scotty

Martin family, Noah Burns, and Laura Burns. Other survivors include

brother and sisters in-law and a host of nieces and nephews. Manaly was active

in the Masons and Shriners. He enjoyed being with them and has left many special

friends behind.
