ANNETTE JONES, age 64, of Winfield, died Sunday, April 1, 2007 at her residence.

Mrs. Jones was born January 26, 1943 in Marion County, a daughter of Marvin and Eva Birchfield Willcutt. She was a resident of Brookside most of her life and attended Brookside and Brilliant Schools. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Christopher Hester and Anthony Dewayne Hester.

Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband, James Jones; one son, Brian (Renee) Jones of Rock City; two daughters, Theresa Hester (Thomas) Venson of Cullman, and Angie Jones (Tim) Farris of Lynn; one brother, Orville Willcutt of Brilliant; six sisters, Bobbie Mayfield of Florence, Audie Johnson of Guin, Polly Clark of Winfield, Glenda Podmore of Winfield, Ileen Wyers of Bankston, and Betty Miller of Winfield; one brother in-law, D. W. Jones; and eight grandchildren, Jacob Hinkle, Nathan Hinkle, Josh Hinkle, Noah Hinkle, Mason Jones, Brianna Hubbert, Collin Gilbert, and Joshua Hester.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at 1:00 PM from the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in the Jones Family Cemetery with Jerry Self and Jason Martin officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

Willie D. Stephenson, age 59, of Winfield, Alabama (formerly of Greenwood Springs, Mississippi), died Friday, April 6, 2007, at Northwest Medical Center in Winfield.

He was born Nov. 20, 1947, in Walker County, Alabama, to the late Dock Lee and Emma Gilmore Stephenson. He attended Smithville High School and also attended Wesley Chapel Methodist Church. He was a former truck driver for Butler and Company in Vernon, Alabama, and Knights Trucking in Detroit, Alabama. He also worked in maintenance at Red Kap in Amory, Mississippi and McCoy Manufacturing in Sulligent, Alabama. He enjoyed fishing.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Otts Funeral Home Chapel in Sulligent. Burial will be in the Mt. Hebron Cemetery.

Tommy Comer, 73, died Friday, April 6, 2007, at his home. He was born April 25, 1933, in Lamar County, Ala., to the late Albert Comer and Maude Moore. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. He was born Dec. 15, 1924, in Alabama to William Jasper and Eva Jackson Creekmore. He was an employee of American Motors for 36 1/2 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was born Feb. 22, 1931, in Itawamba County to Dewey and Nadean Paden Mayhall. He was a farmer for 50 years and a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Phillip Strickland, 27, died Saturday, April 14, 2007, at his residence.

He was born April 2, 1980, to Buddy and Martha Strickland. He loved to hunt, fish, NASCAR and taking Jonathan to the dragstrip on Sunday afternoon. He was a Baptist and a welder.

Born in Fayette County, Alabama. He is the Son of the late James W. and Nancy Leona Tucker Perry, and the Husband of the late Edith Gosa Perry. He had lived in Gu-Win since 1981 and was a member of the Harmony Grove Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army and received the Purple Heart.

Mrs. Rachael Guined Henderson Tidwell Hughes, age 81, of Haleyville, passed away April 30, 2007 at Lakeland Community Hospital.

Mrs. Tyra, age 78, passed away at Lakeland Community Hospital, Sunday, April 29, 2007.

Mrs. Tyra was a longtime member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church and was retired from Haleyville Textile Mills.

She is survived by: Her Husband - Edward M. Tyra; 1 Son - Jimmy (Emily) Tyra; 1 Daughter - Suzette C. Caldwell; 1 Sister Iva Jo Whitworth Tyra; Also 2 Grandchildren; Darrin Caldwell & Derrick Tyra and 2 Great Grandchildren; Matthew & Connor Caldwell.

Inez A Woods, 90, passed away from this world into the arms of her Lord and Savior, on Wednesday April 25, 2007. Our precious mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and loving treasure to all whose lives she touched. She was a long time resident of Addison and a devoted member of Addison United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5-7PM at Nichols Funeral Home in Addison. Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 11AM at Nichols Funeral Home. Burial will be at Alston Family Cemetery in Addison. Walter Jury will officiate.

She was preceded in death by her parents Lizzie Belle and Emerson Clark Alston; her husband, Arthur Waterston Woods; her son, Arthur Woods; her sister, Alma Johnson; brothers, Garland, Earl, Bennie, Bill and Zack Alston.

She is survived by one son, Jim Woods; three daughters, Susan, Kathy and Mary Woods; two brothers, Fred and E.C. Alston; grandchildren, Jennifer Dolcelli, Brad, Brian and Julie Wood, Haley and Allie Woods, Lauren, Kristie and Michael Woods, Andy and Becky James; great grandchildren, Alyssa and Ayanna Wood; Raymond Dolcelli.

She will be sadly missed by all whose lives she touched and we shall never know another like her.

She was preceded in death by 1 grandchild.

Lexie Thompson, 91, Brilliant, passed away on Monday, April 30, 2007, at her residence.

She was born March 27,1916, in Alabama, to the late Ben and Palestine Taylor Huguley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clyde Thompson; daughters, Peggy Hollingsworth and Billie Ann Butler; granddaughter, Teresa Johnson; and grandson, Jerry Hollingsworth.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at 5 p.m. from the Mt. Pleasant Free Will Baptist Church with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Keith Spencer and Jamie Jeffreys officiating.

Survivors include her son - Jimmy Thompson, San Francisco, Calif.; son-in-law - Glenn Holligsworth, Mississippi; daughter - Sherry Smith, Brilliant; sister - Burnice Auston, Guin; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren;11 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Monty Allen, Boomer Hulsey, Kelly Green, and Randy, Kenny, and David Hollingsworth.

Mattes - Minnie Watt Fite, of Tuxedo Park, NY, wife of the late Edward Charles Mattes, Sr., died April 27, 2007. She was 88.

A daughter of Minnie Watt Pierce and Ernest Baxter Fite, of Hamilton, AL, she graduated from the Juilliard School of Music and the University of Alabama. She was married for 23 years to her husband, a private investor, and was a past treasurer of the Garden Club of Orange and Dutchess Counties, NY, and a member of the Tuxedo Club, the Colony Club, the Bathing Corporation of Southampton, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of 1812, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

She is survived by three children, Edward Charles Mattes, Jr., of New York, Laura Laurens Mattes Cox, of Durham, NC, and John Baxter Mattes, of Duxbury, MA; and two grandsons, John Baxter Mattes, Jr., and James Elliott Lindsley Mattes.
