I was born in the City of Hamilton, the son of Judy Webb Mays and the late Gary Wayne Mays, Sr. I am a 1992 graduate of Hamilton High School, and have lived here all of my life. I am the grandson of Mary Nell Pope Mays and the late John O. Mays of Hamilton and the late Grady L. and Eather Rye Webb of Hamilton.
Since 1991, I have been a member of South Hamilton Baptist Church. I am a member and current Vice-President of the Marion County Humane Society and a member of the FOP since 1998.
I am currently self-employed with 49 County News.Net and a part-time police officer with the City of Guin. I began my career in law enforcement in 1997 with the City of Hamilton and in 9 ½ years rose to the rank of Sergeant. My duties with the City included registration and maintenance of sex offenders and maintenance of the police department’s evidence room, along with my regular patrol duties. These duties have taught me the importance of community relations, serving the public, and that a city is only as strong as its weakest link.
In 2006, Don Gann, my mother and I started 49 County News.Net, a local information website about Marion County. While filming the Hamilton City Council meetings for our website, I became more interested in the City’s policies and procedures. I feel that my experiences working for the city and filming council meetings coupled with my desire to see Hamilton grow make me a good candidate for Hamilton City Council.
I believe that the City of Hamilton is a wonderful place to live and that we have an enormous potential for growth. For the City of Hamilton to grow we must have a balance between a well built industrial and retail section. With this we might be able to keep our graduating seniors in our community. I was one of the lucky ones to have the opportunity to stay here with a good career.
Please Elect Gary Wayne Mays, Jr. for Hamilton City Council Place # 4.
