Mr. Horace McCarley, age 77 of Hamilton, Alabama, passed away Saturday, November 1, 2008 at his residence.

Funeral service, 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel with visitation from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. prior to service at the funeral home.  Bro. Elvis Cochran and Bro. Gary Yielding officiating.  Burial in Hamilton City Cemetery.

Mr. McCarley was born August 29, 1931, in Marion County, Alabama to Erlou Goggans McCarley and the late Hubert McCarley.  He was Retired from the State Highway Department and was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Yielding McCarley of Hamilton, Alabama; daughters, Terri Johnson, Hamilton, AL. and Anne (Ron) Shady, Killen, AL.; mother Erlou McCarley, Hamilton, AL.; sister, Anita "Cricket" (L.O.) Mr. W. G. "Dub" Ingle, age 68, of Cumberland City, Tennessee (formerly of Hackleburg, AL), passed away Sunday, November 2, 2008. 

Funeral service, Wednesday, November 5, 2008, 2:00 p.m. at the Hackleburg First Baptist Church with burial in Cedar Tree Cemetery.  Bro. Steve Lawrence officiating.  Visitation, 6:00 - 9:00 p.m., Tuesday evening, November 4th, at the church.

Mr. Ingle was born November 29, 1939 in Marion County, Alabama, to the late Rob and Verdie Gunnin Ingle.  He was a farmer and a Veteran.

He is survived by his sons, Cecil (Louise) Ingle, Hackleburg, AL., and W. G. (Wilma) Ingle, Jr., Prattville, AL.; 4 grandchildren; and brothers, Frank Ingle, John L. Ingle, and Donnie Ingle.

Annie Laura Thompson, age 71 of New Orleans, LA and Winfield, AL, passed away Saturday, November 1, 2008 in New Orleans.

Miss Thompson was born on July 8, 1937 in Henderson, TN, a daughter of Wesley S. and Letha Irene Jones Thompson. She earned her B.A. from University of AL, her M.A. from Duke University and her Ph.D. from Tulane University. She had been a Spanish Professor at University of MS, Auburn and retired from Delgado College in 2000.

She is survived by sister, Mary Alice Yarbrough, Greenville, SC; niece, Sarah Farah Ratner, Richmond, VA; nephew, Wesley Cole Yarbrough, Bozeman, MT; special friends, Kay Seagraves and Kim Glorioso.

Esther Ann Marshall Ulmer, age 93, of Starkville, MS, formerly of Winfield, AL, passed away Monday, November 3, 2008 at the Carrington Nursing Center in Starkville, MS.

She was retired as the owner of Ulmer’s Remnant Shop in Starkville, Mississippi.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Allen Ulmer.

Mr. Ira White, age 88 of Brilliant, AL, passed away Monday, November 3, 2008 in the Golden Living Center at Winfield, AL.

Mr. White was born on December 28, 1919 in Marion County, Alabama, a son of Nathan Alexander White and Mary Ann Miles White; resident of Brilliant, Alabama and Mt. Pisgah Community most of his life; previously a Coal Miner, Driver for Ben Little Cement Products in Winfield and retired from Brilliant Water Department; WWII US Army Veteran; member of American Legion; and a member of Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma White; an infant daughter; a sister, Ludean Corkren; and four brothers, Grady, Wilburn, Ellis and Orville.

Survivors include a special companion, Louise Hill of Winfield; one brother, Richard White of Rome, GA; two sisters, Polly Massey of Denton, TX and Irene Roby of Winfield; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mr. William R. “W.R.” Kimbrell, age 73 of Brilliant, passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2008 in the St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham.

Funeral Services were held Friday, November 7, 2008 at 2:00 PM from the McGraw Memorial Chapel of Miles Funeral Home. Gregg Webb and Larry Pollard officiated. Burial followed in Brilliant Memorial Gardens

Mr. Kimbrell was born on January 1, 1935 in Marion Co. a son of Abraham Lincoln Kimbrell and Ellie Mae Chaffin Kimbrell; resident of Brilliant most of his life; previously employed with various manufactured housing plants and Hamilton Plastics; US Air Force Veteran; and a member of Brilliant Domino Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Junior and Charles Kimbrell; and two sisters, Eulean Castergine and Chris Rodriquez.

Survivors include one brother, Wayne (Gloria) Kimbrell of Brilliant; two sisters, Jewell Dean Hulsey of Hamilton and Sue (Rayburn) Rogers of Haleyville; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Rethie Randolph Pratt, age 83, of Shelby, Alabama, passed Wednesday, November 5, 2008, in the Shelby Baptist Hospital in Alabaster, AL.

She was born in Itawamba County, Mississippi, to the late Joseph and Lucretia McCarley Randolph.  She was the wife of the late Willie D. Pratt. She had lived in Guin most of her life and had lived in Columbiana the past 16 years and was a member of the Antioch Primitive Baptist Church.

She is survived by 1 daughter, Doviel Jean Cantrell of Shelby, AL; 2 grandsons, Michael Franks and Scott Franks; 6 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Ethel Pratt of Hackleburg, AL. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie D. Pratt; her parents, Joseph and Lucretia McCarley Randolph; 3 Brothers and 1 Sister.

She was a member of the Ballard Freewill Baptist Church where she was active as a church treasurer and very involved in other church activities and functions. Rosa had worked at Reltoc Manufacturing and MTD in Tupelo and at Pineview Health care center as a Nursing Aid.

Mr. Virgil Dewayne Sims, age 58, of Beaverton, AL, passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at the residence.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 13, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. from the Otts Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Smith Cemetery. Officiating minister will be Dr. Larry Wates. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M.

Mr. Sims was born on July 5, 1950 in Winfield, Alabama to the late Virgil Sam and Jewel Dean Hulsey Sims. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Sims had previously
worked for Alcoa in Rockdale, TX. He loved riding motorcycles and had been on several rides in West Monroe, LA for “Jerry’s Kids” which provides help for children
with muscular dystrophy. He enjoyed being with friends, campfires and barbequing.

Mr. Franks was born on August 5, 1932 in Marion Co. a son of David Elmon Franks and Frances Lillie Allen Franks; resident of Winfield past several years; prior resident of Moline, IL; previously employed with John Deere, a Truck Driver and retired Security Officer with Ban Security; member of Elks Lodge; and a member of Trinity Free Will Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elma “Jackie” Neff Franks; and two sisters, Ruth Trimm and Eva Mae Franks.

Kirkpatrick, Leonard Monroe - Age 96 - Winfield, AL

Leonard Monroe Kirkpatrick, age 96, Winfield, Alabama, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2008.

Private graveside services held at the West Alabama Memorial Gardens in Gu-Win.  Father Tim Pfander officiating.  Memorial service Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, 1:00 p.m. at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Winfield.

He was born December 6, 1912, in Walker County, AL., to the late Thomas and Celia Kirkpatrick. He lived most of his life in Winfield. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed with 7-up Bottling Company in Jasper for 25 years. After semi-retirement, he was employed with Parrish Tire Company in Winfield before he retired in 1982. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Dorenia Stephens Kirkpatrick; his parents, Thomas and Celia Kirkpatrick; three sisters; and two brothers.

He is survived by his daughters, Judith (Donald) Sobrak, Winfield, AL. and Lynda Kirkpatrick (Art Wiles), Salisbury, N.C.; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Walter “Wally” Steerzer, age 77, of Hamilton, Alabama, passed away Monday, November 3, 2008, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS.

Funeral service Saturday, November 8, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. from the Marion County Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in the Barnesville Cemetery with military honors. Bro. Jeff Fleming was the officiating minister

Wally was born June 30, 1931, in Detroit, Mich., to the late Frederick and Mable Steerzer.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Dolores Steerzer; sons, Rick (Karon) Steerzer, Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Kirk and Scott Steerzer, both of Griffin, Ga.; daughter, Lisa Steerzer, Nashville, Tenn.; granddaughter, Regan (Matthew) Kralovac, Stafford, Va.; grandson, Grant Steerzer; one great-grandson; brothers, Frederick and William Steerzer, both of Michigan; sister, Frances Schefter, Michigan; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Active pallbearers were Willie Sparks, Roger Cagle, Dick Holloway, Grant Steerzer, Don Galbreath, Daniel Brazelton and Bucky Stuart.

William “Bill” Stocks, age 81, Winfield, passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at the Golden Living Center in Winfield.

Funeral service Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. from the Randy Lawrence Memorial Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home of Winfield, with burial in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Brilliant. H.B. Nelson was the officiating minister.

He was born June 11, 1927, in Fayette, Alabama to the late William Delmer and Burma Lee Galloway Stocks.

In addition to his parents, William Delmer and Burma Lee Galloway Stocks, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Paul Ray Stocks.

Mr. Clavette was born June 23, 1989 in Middletown, Connecticut to Randy and Romona Markham Clavette. He attended Love Joy Freewill Baptist Church. Mr. Clavette
was a 2007 graduate of Sulligent High School. He was attending Bevill State Community College in Hamilton. Mr. Clavette was an active supporter of the Sulligent High
School Band and still traveled with them to every game. He was an avid reader and loved fishing, swimming and the outdoors.

of Faith Church where she was on the usher board. Mrs. Richardson previously worked at Via Christi St. Frances Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. She enjoyed fishing.
