Mr. Max Quinn, age 63, of Hackleburg, Alabama, passed away Friday, April 4, 2008 at his residence.

Funeral service, Sunday, April 6, 2008, 2:00 p.m., at the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel in Hamilton.  Wade Peoples and Keith Rhudy officiating.  Visitation, at the funeral home chapel, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2008.  Burial in Cedar Tree Cemetery in Hackleburg, AL.

Mr. Quinn was born December 13, 1944 in Marion County, Alabama to the late Annie Bell Cook and Ollie Walter Quinn.  He was a retired Carpenter.

He is survived by his children, Ginger (Wade) Peoples, Johnny Max (Tina) Quinn, and Joshua Wade (Paige) Quinn; 5 grandchildren, Daniel, Nathan and Hannah Peoples, Erin and Landon Quinn; brothers, Gerald Walter Quinn, and Wallace Norman "Butch" Quinn.

Mr. L.B. Mann, age 86, of Hackleburg, Alabama passed away Saturday, April 5, 2008 at Trinity Medical Center in Birmingham, AL.

Mr. Mann was born September 6, 1921, in Marion County, Alabama to the late William John and Vernia Sumner Mann.  He was married to Lola Isom Mann for 61 years.  He was a retired State Highway Department Engineer for 33 years.  During World War II, he worked at Rockwood, AL. making ammo.  His first job was as a bus driver for Marion County School System.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lola Isom Mann; children, Benny Darvan (Karen) Mann of Jasper, AL., and Dena ( Harry) Starr of Carlinville, IL.; grandchildren, Carolina Ann Mann, and Derek Alexander Palmer; and sister, Marlene Carter, Hamilton, AL.

He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Billy, Clayton, and James Earl Mann; 3 sisters, Lois Raper, Helen Duke, and Ruth Kelly.

James Gerrodd "Jim", age 68, of Hackleburg, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at Lakeland Community Hospital in Haleyville, Alabama.

"Jim" was born August 5, 1939, in North Carolina, to the late Carl Leslie and Francis Grace Roach Davis.  He was retired from the Military after 20 years in the United States Air Force.

He is survived by his wife Wanda Reno Davis; children, Randy (Theresa) Davis, Teresa Ann Gravitt, and Danny (Romanee) Davis; 9 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers; and 1 sister.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Francis Davis and a son, Robert Ray Davis.

Hardin, Ione Hardin - Age 99 - Vina, AL

Ione Johnson Hardin, age 99, of Vina, Alabama, died Sunday, April 13, 2008, at the Red Bay Hospital.

She was born April 8, 1909, in Franklin County, Ala., to Porter and Elzadia Bonds Johnson. She was a devoted mother and homemaker and had many friends. She was a Protestant.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay, Ala., with Bro. Dan Hindman officiating. Burial will be in Burnout Cemetery.

Survivors include five children, Mazelle Hardin, Horace Hardin and Hollis Hardin, all of Vina, Ernestine Kerby of Birmingham and Darlene Hester of Russellville, Ala.; six grandchildren, Theresa Hester Mays (Rex), Don Hester (Jeanne), Stephen Kerby (Anna Marie), Michael Kerby (Gina), Montez Hester, Holli Anne Hardin Fontenot (Dallas); seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Hardin; and her parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Pallbearers will be Don Hester, Kerry Hester, Marlin Gober Jr., Mark Hardin, Joe Hardin and Mike Kerby.

Rex Mays will be an honorary pallbearer.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Deborah Reese Howe, age 55, of Red Bay, Alabama, died Sunday, April 13, 2008, at her home.

She was born Nov. 21, 1952, in Missouri to J.W. and Virginia Newsome Reese. She was a nurse's aide and attended Bethel Church of God.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at the funeral home.  Services will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay, Ala., with Bro. Ronnie Reese officiating. 

Survivors include one daughter, Marie Howe of Red Bay.

E.G. Irvin, age 74, of Detroit, Alabama, died Saturday, April 12, 2008, at his home.

He was born May 2, 1933, in Lamar County, Ala., to Raymond and Bertha Turman Irvin. He was a retired employee of Continental Conveyor in Winfield, Ala., and a Baptist.

Services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, April 14, 2008, at Crews United Methodist Church. Bro. Roger Redus and Bro. Thomas Scott officiating. Burial in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Irvin of Detroit, Ala.; one son, Tommy Irvin of North Carolina; one daughter, Linda (Ricky) Roberts of Sulligent, Ala.; his grandchildren, Thomas Irvin and Alex (Jessie) Roberts; his great-grandchildren, Dalton Irvin and Brycen Roberts; one brother, James Troy (Mary Ann) Irvin of Hatley; one sister, Dorothy (William) Puckett of Hatley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Terry Michael Irvin; a granddaughter, Adria Roberts; a great-granddaughter, Kylie Roberts; two brothers, Joe Irvin and Earnest Irvin; and two sisters, Fleta Taylor and Berta Moore.

Mr. Elberton Mixon, age 72, of Beaverton, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2008 at Northwest Medical Center in Winfield.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. from the Otts Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Love Joy Cemetery. Bro. Charles Yielding and Bro. Edward Puckett will be officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home Monday evening after 6:00 P.M. Mr. Mixon was born September 22, 1935 in Lamar County, AL to the late Raymond Terrell “Grant” and Liddie Easter Robison Mixon. He was a member of Love Joy Freewill Baptist Church. Mr. Mixon was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He enjoyed going to auctions and fishing.

Ms. Letha was born January 2, 1913, in Marion County, Alabama to Jim and Dovie Gann Young.  She was retired from the Marion County School Lunch Room System where she served many years in Hamilton's School lunch room.  She is survived by 2 sons, James Gann and his wife, Mary Sue; and Herman Gann and his wife, Barbara; 3 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Gann and an infant daughter, June Gann.

OBITUARY

     God opened up his arms and welcomed one of his angels home.  Mrs. Mary Lou Spears Casey was born on August 28, 1915, in Bexar, Alabama.  She departed her earthly home for her heavenly home on April 30, 2008.  She was the daughter of Garfield and Alice Spears.  As a child, she attended Ada Hanna School.  She united with Christ at Mt. Zion I Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.  She later transferred her membership to Mt. Zion II Christian Methodist Episcopal Church where she remained an active and faithful member until her health became compromised.  She was a member of the Stewardess Board and the Missionary Society.  She enjoyed notebook singing and lending a helping hand to others in need throughout the community.

     She was a domestic servant at the Hamilton Holiday Motel for over 20 years.  She was employed at the Tremont Garment Plant in Tremont, Mississippi as a skilled seamstress.  Mary Lou, as she was often called, possessed the God-given talent of creating clothes, sometimes without the aid of a pattern for herself, her children and her friends.

     Her greatest title was that of a loving mother and wife.  She was united in marriage to the late Matthew Corbet Casey.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, Lucille Shepard, and a special person that was raised as a sister, Vada Colburn, one daughter, Eva Dale Casey, and one son, William Morris Casey also preceded her in death along with two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

     Cherishing the memories of Mary Lou Casey are her seven daughters, one son, and one daughter-in-law.  Daughters, Betty Terrell (Donald) of Hamilton, Alabama, Peggy Stone (Fred) of Dallas, Texas, LeeZema Stegall, of Atlanta, Georgia, Mary Ollie Clifton (Clinton) of Huntsville, Alabama, Son, Kenneth Casey (Lisa) of Caledonia, Mississippi, Alice Dean Stewart (Benny) of Hamilton, Alabama, Evelyn Fay Walker (Joe) of Hamilton, Alabama, Vickie Robinson of Hamilton, Alabama, and Lillian Casey of Smithville, Mississippi.  Her legacy will live on through her 20 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

Fred Brown age 93 of Guin, AL died Thursday, April 3, 2008 at his residence.

Born in Higdon, Arkansas, he is the Son of the late John and Cora Brown. He had lived in Guin the past 33 years and was a member of the Philadelphia Methodist Church. He was a Veteran of World War II having served in the US Army.

He is survived by his Wife, Inez White Brown of Guin, AL, Two Sons, Darryl (Ann) Brown of Biloxi, MS and David Brown of Gulf Port, MS, Two Grandchildren, Amanda and Ashley, and A Sister Mary Tuggle of Joplin, MO.

Services Saturday, April 5, 2008 at 2:00 pm from the Philadelphia Methodist Church with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Bro. Shane Harris officiating.

Hollis, Matha - Age 67 - Sulligent, AL

Matha Hollis age 67, of Sulligent, AL passed away Friday April 4, 2008 at the Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory, Mississippi.

She was born in Kemper County Mississippi to the late J.T. and Jessie Hammond Harbour. She has been a resident of the Sulligent area since 1968 and was a member of the Academy Baptist Church near Vernon, AL. Mrs. Hollis retired from the Lamar County Health Department from the Home Health Division were she was a Registered Nurse.

Survived by her Husband: Lecial Hollis of Sulligent, AL, One Daughter: Gwendolen Rynn (Captain Justin, USAF) Hendricks of Grand Forks, North Dakota, Two Sons: Michael Ruben (Carolyn) Hollis of Caledonia, MS and Steven Ryan (Katie Jo) Hollis of Nashville TN, Two Sisters: Louise Wing of Houston, TX and Jackie Hollowell of Jackson, MS, One Brother: Tyrone Harbour of Collinsville, MS Three Grandchildren: Ashley Dannielle Hollis, Benjamin Thomas Hendricks, and Sophie Joy Hollis. A host of Nieces and Nephews.

Preceded in death by her Parents and Three Brothers: Tom Harbour, Lamar Harbour and Cleve Harbour.

Hollis, Warren - Age 76 - Gadsden, AL

Warren Hollis, age 76, of Gadsden, AL died Sunday, April 6, 2008 in the Riverview Medical Center in Gadsden.

Born in Lamar County, AL. He is the Son of the late Guy and Ruby Gray Hollis.

He was a former resident of Guin and had operated the Hollis Motel in Guin for several years. He had lived in Gadsden the past 2 years, was a member of the Rock Creek Baptist Church in Bessemer and was a Veteran of the Korean War having served in the US Army.

He is survived by A Brother, Terry (Ann) Hollis of Gadsden, AL, A Sister-In-Law, Tommie Hollis of Hueytown, AL, 2 Nieces, Maureen Hollis and Jan Campbell, 2 Nephews, Robert and Jimmy Hollis, Great Nieces and Nephews, Josh Hollis, Lee Hollis, Samantha Sullivan, Rob Satterwhite, Shan Campbell and Andrea Campbell, A Step Niece, Pam Rose Brasher and Step Nephew, Jason (Darlene) Rose and 5 Step Great Nieces and Nephews and Several Cousins.

Clara Willodean Stanford, age 86, of Mobile formerly of Guin, AL died Friday, April 4, 2008 in Mobile.

Born in Winfield, AL, she is the Daughter of the late Jeff and Donnie Vernon McDonald and the Wife of the late James Hal Stanford. She was a member of the Cypress Shores Baptist Church where she was a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class.

She is survived by A Daughter, Charlie (Bill) Donald of Semmes, AL, Two Brothers, Harding (Frankie) McDonald of Guin, AL and Stanley (Irene) McDonald of Winfield, AL, Three Grandchildren, Donnie, Beth, and Sara Donald all of Semmes, AL, several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Services held Thursday, April 10, 2008 at 2:00 PM from the Norwood Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the West Alabama Memorial Gardens.

Silas, Roger Frank  - Age 62 - Guin, AL

Roger Frank Silas age 62 of Guin, AL died Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at his residence.

Born in Guin, AL. He is the Son of the late Delton and Selma Franks Silas. He Married Joyce Dale Knight on March 6, 1970 and had lived in Guin all of his life and was of the Free Will Baptist Church. He had worked as a mechanic for Health Tex in Guin and Southern Needle in Fayette.

Redden Thomas Wallace age 97 of Guin, Alabama passed away Friday April 25, 2008 at the Northwest Medical Center in Winfield.

Born in Beaverton, AL. He is the Son of the late Aaron and Alice Harton Wallace and the Husband of the late Alice Pearl Metcalfe Wallace. He had lived in the Guin area all of his life and was a member of the Guin Church Of Christ.

He is survived by 4 Daughters, Mittie Nalls of Fayette, AL, Lillie (Jr.) Key of Guin, AL, Amanda Hackman of Guin, AL and Judy McDaniels of St. Louis, MO.

3 Sons, Redden ( Anna Jean) Wallace, Jr., George (Ada) Wallace and Mack (Sandra) Wallace all of Guin, AL. 21 Grandchildren, 25 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild. Son In Law, Clint Hubbert of Montgomery, AL.

He was also preceded in death by a Daughter, Mary Hubbert, 2 Sons-In-Law Archie Nalls and James McDaniels, 5 Sisters and 6 Brothers.

Services will be Friday May 2, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. from the Chapel with Burial in the Beaver Creek Cemetery. Bro Arthur Freeman and Bro. Steve Clark officiating.

Norton, Charles B. - Age 98 . - Sulligent, AL

Charles B. Norton age 98 of Sulligent, AL, died Sunday, April 27, 2008 at the Walker Baptist Medical Center in Jasper, AL.

Born in the Pine Springs Community to the late Claud Cylvester and Ella Plunkett Norton and the husband of the late Willie Mae Thomas Norton. He was a member of the Pine Springs United Methodist Church and was Past Master of the Masonic Lodge # 808 and a member of the Masonic Lodge #532. C.B. had lived in Birmingham, AL for Thirty-Six years and retired from U. S. Steel as an equipment operator. He was liked and loved by all who knew him with his witty sense of humor and personality. He had many friends and was a good friend to others. The sum of his life would be too lengthy to tell in a few words. He will be greatly missed by family and friends, but he left a legacy to be remembered.

Survived by One Son: Charles (Geneva) Norton of Kimberly, AL, One Sister: Billie Fay (D.D.) Real of Hamilton, AL, Three Grandchildren: Beverly Green, Barry Norton, and Melanie Harris, Five Great Grandchildren: Christopher, Amanda, Jessica, Emily, and Savanna, and Eight Great Great-Grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his Parents and his Wife and Three Sisters: Avis Irvin, Luree Otts, and Grace Anderson, and One Brother: Paul Norton.

Services held Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. from the Norwood Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Pine Springs Cemetery. Bro. Mitch Nethery officiating.

Visitation: Tuesday from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home.

Mr. John Lee Stoner, age 65, of Birmingham, AL passed away Saturday, April 19, 2008 at St. Vincent’s East in Birmingham. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 26, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. from the Otts Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Furnace Hill Cemetery in Vernon. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Friday evening from 6:00 until 7:00 P.M. Mr. Stoner was born February 25, 1943 in Valparaiso, IN to the late John and Marilou Yotter Stoner. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Stoner was a graduate of Valparaiso High School where he excelled in football. He later graduated from Ball State University in Muncie, IN. He loved his work as a trainer of greyhound dogs and was previously employed at the Birmingham Greyhound Race Course.

Mrs. Bessie Cantrell, age 93, of Columbus, MS formerly of Beaverton, AL passed away Saturday, April 19, 2008 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 21, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. from the Otts Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in the Webb Cemetery. Bro. Danny Stanford will be officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home Monday from 1:00 until service time at 2:00 P.M. Pallbearers will be Daryl Tucker, Bradley Cantrell, Devin Cantrell, Bobby Gene Cantrell, Gerie Yeatman and Tommy Forrester. Mrs. Cantrell was born March 18, 1915 in Lamar County, AL to the late John James and Rosanna Turman Eastman. She was married to the late Ollie Cantrell. Mrs. Cantrell was a member of the Union Chapel Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting.

Mrs. Laura Pitts Otts, age 77, of Sulligent, AL in the Crews Community passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at the Care Center of Vernon. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 2, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. from the Otts Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Prospect Cemetery. Officiating ministers will be Bro. Claude Hand and Bro. John Nicholson. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Serving as Active Pallbearers will be Chad Wheeler, Kevin Wheeler, Patrick Gosa, Brent Egger, Casey Baughn and Joey Sandlin. Mrs. Otts was born on April 9, 1931 in Lamar County, AL to the late Houston and Margie Canterbury Pitts. She was married to the late I.J. Otts. Mrs. Otts was a member of the Prospect Primitive Baptist Church. She had previously worked as a seamtress at Munsingwear in Guin, AL. She enjoyed gardening.
