Wanda Colburn, age 57 of Guin, Alabama passed away Thursday, March 1, 2007 in the North Mississippi Medical Center in Hamilton, AL.

Services held Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 11:00 am from the Norwood Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Mt. Willing Cemetery. Bro. Randy Wright officiating.  Visitation Friday 6 - 8 pm at the funeral home.

She was born in Marion County, Alabama, the Daughter of the late Claudie and Evelyn McDonald Colburn. She had lived in Guin all of her life and was a member of the Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church.

She is Survived by a Sister, Carolyn (Price) Pearce of Guin, AL, A Uncle, Ned (Etoil) McDonald, Sr. of Guin, AL, A Aunt, Sally Bostick of Hamilton, AL, Cousin Merline and Tommy Nix of Hamilton, AL and several other cousins.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Theodore and Nucie McDonald; and a Sister, Mary Katherine Colburn.

Pope, James Allen "Jimmy" - Age 47 - Winfield, AL 3/1/07

James Allen “Jimmy” Pope, age 47 of Winfield, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2007 in the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, MS. Jimmy was born on March 29, 1959 in San Salvador, El Salvador, Central America a son of R. R. “Dick” Pope and Faye Galbreath Pope; resident of Winfield since 1962; 1977 Graduate of Winfield High School; a Welder by trade; and a member of Winfield First Baptist Church.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dewitt Pope.

Survivors include one son, Joshua C. Pope of Winfield; mother, Faye Galbreath Pope of Winfield; three brothers, Richard R. (Anne) Pope Jr. of Winfield, Steve (Dawn) Pope of Franklin, TN and Rick (Janet) Pope of Northport; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral Services were held Sunday, March 4, 2007 at 2:00 PM from the McGraw Memorial Chapel of Miles Funeral Home. Dr. Charles Ballew was the officiating minister. Burial followed in the Winfield City Cemetery with Miles Funeral Home of Winfield directing the service.

Mrs. Annette Pope, age 64, of Hamilton, Alabama, passed away Friday morning, March 2, 2007 at her residence.

Mrs. Pope was born in Mississippi on March 5, 1943 to Omer E. and Velma Plunkett Ford.  She was a Homemaker.

Funeral Service will be Monday, March 5, 2007, 2:00 p.m. at the Church of God of Prophecy in Hamilton, Alabama, with Bro. Terry Gann officiating.  The body will lie in state from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. (service time) at the Church.  Visitation will be Sunday night at the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.  Burial will be in James Creek Cemetery.

Mrs. Pope is survived by her devoted husband, David Pope; 4 daughters, Charlotte Squires, Deborrah Trueman, Christine Kuipers and Doris Dutton; 9 grandchildren; 3 brothers, Leland, Johnny, and Gordon Ford; and 1 sister, Minnie Hamilton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Omer & Velma Ford; 2 brothers, William Ford and Charles Ford, and 1 sister, Mildred Crain.

Bobby G. Banta, age 77, of Guin, AL died Friday, March 2, 2007 at his residence.

Memorial Services held Sunday, March 4, 2007 at 4:00 PM from the Winfield Church Of God with Bro. Eddie Williamson officiating.

He was born in Ava, Missouri and was the Son of the late Samuel and Elizabeth Dobbins Banta. He was a former resident of East Moline, IL where he worked for the City of Moline for 17 years, and was a former resident of Carbon Hill. He had lived in Guin the past 4 years and was a member of the Winfield Church Of God.

He is survived by his Wife, Debra Green Banta of Guin, AL, A Daughter, Christy G. Banta of Del Note, CO, 2 Sons, Rick L. Banta of Colona, IL and David Lee Banta of Guin, AL, 2 Grandsons, Titus and Joshua Banta of Colona, IL, A Great Granddaughter, Brooklyn K. Banta, a brother, Bill Banta of New Liberty, Iowa and a Foster Child, Rebecka Catour of East Moline, IL. Several Nieces and Nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a Sister Margaret L. Van Ness.

Ms. McDonald was born in Charleston, Mississippi to the late Clifford and Minnie Sloan Rayburn and the wife of the late Thomas Jasper McDonald. She was a Homemaker and of the Baptist Faith.

Miller, Bobby Joe “Jody” - Age 28 - Hackleburg, AL  3/3/07

Bobby Joe “Jody” Miller, age 28 of Hackleburg, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2007 in the Marion Regional Medical Center at Hamilton as a result of an automobile accident. Jody was born on June 30, 1978 in Marion Co. a son of Robert Harold “Bobby” Miller and Martha Mae McKay Miller; he was a resident of Hamilton but was residing in Hackleburg the past several months; he attended Marion County High School at Guin; he  was currently employed with Tim Cantrell doing Farm Work; previously employed with Cooper Insulation at Hamilton; and he attended Beaverton Church of God.

He was preceded in death by a son, Eli Miller; step-brother, Jerry White; grandmothers, Betty Miller and Wanda Miles; grandfathers, Wilburn Miller and Elmer McKay.

Survivors include his wife, Melinda Martin Miller of Hackleburg; two daughters, Aysha Jayhd and Abbie Gale Miller, Hackleburg; father, Robert H. “Bobby” Miller and step-mother, Lydia of Guin; mother, Martha Haney and step-father, Roger of Brilliant; three sisters, Andrea Norris of Fayette, Brandy Richardville and Kelly White, both of Guin; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mr. D. V. Holcomb, age 84, of Hamilton, Alabama, passed away Monday, March 5, 2007 at the V. A. Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.

Mrs. Velma Jackson Burleson age 100 of Guin, AL died Friday, March 9, 2007 in the Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Guin, AL.

Born in the Fulton Bridge Community. She is the Daughter of the late Benjamin F. (Bud) and Mary Ann (Mollie) Clark Jackson and the Wife of the late Charley E. Burleson. She had lived in Guin most of her life and was a member of the Guin First Baptist Church.

She is Survived by Two Daughters, Norma (Bob) Nelson, and Marjorie Ann (Bobby Joe) Wilson, Two Sons, Jack (Faye) Burleson and Bobby (Annie Sue) Burleson all of Guin, AL, 7 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren, and A Sister In Law, Era Mae Jackson of Winfield, AL.

Mr. James Dalton Cooper, age 80, of Detroit, Alabama, passed away Monday night, March 12, 2007 at Carraway Hospital in Birmingham, AL.

Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2007 at the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel.  Bro. Billy Ray, Bro. Richie Stone and Bro. Mr. Cooper was born in Alabama, October 26, 1926 to the late Era Chandler and Delmar Cooper.  He was a Truck Driver and drove for a trucking company.

He is survived by his wife, Estell Revis; 3 Daughters, Dapthander, from Kenosha, WI., Donna (Ben) from Kenosha, WI. and Denise from Detroit, AL.; a Son, Danny (Tina) from Kenosha, WI.; 2 Step Sons, James (Victoria) Kelly from Illinois and William (Pam) Kelly of Detroit, AL., 13 Grandcildren; 11 Grandcildren; 2 Sisters, Vernell (Oscar) Robertson from Sulligent, AL., Annie Paige (Harold) Hulsey, from Hamilton, AL.; 3 Brothers, Palmer (Dorothy) Cooper, from Beaverton, AL., and Dile (Edith) Cooper, from Detroit, AL.

He was preceded in death by 4 Brothers, 1 Sister, 3 Brother-in-Laws, and 1 Sister-in-Law.

Billy was a truck driver for a number of years for various companies and a night watchman.  He was an avid fisherman who was loved by everyone who knew him.  He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.  Whenever you pass his house, just smile because you  know he would be either sitting under the tree or on the front porch waving and nodding or even napping.

Mr. Billy Baxter Cofield, Age 75, of Detroit, Alabama, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at his residence.

Mr. Cofield was born in Alabama on January 11, 1932 to Prince Wells and Edna Stone Cofield.  He was a Plant Worker in the Textile Industry and a Navy Veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Reba Real Cofield; Children, Debbie (David) Fikes and Denise Cofield; Grandchildren, Heather Fikes, Amber Fikes, Kyle (Carla) Fikes, Whitney Fikes and Zack Fikes; a Brother, James (Jackie) Cofield; and a host of friends & other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Prince Wells and Edna Stone Cofield.

Mr. Charles "Buddy" Weeks, age 72, of Hamilton, Alabama passed away Wednesday night, March 14, 2007 at his residence.

Charles "Buddy"Weeks passed away on March 14, 2007 after a lengthy illness.  Long-time business owner of Northwest Alabama Heating and Cooling, he installed and repaired systems for homes and businesses all over the Hamilton and Marion County area.

Born on February 18, 1935, he was the son of John T. and Hattie Weeks of Winfield, AL.

Funeral Services giving thanks for his life, rather than mourning his death were held at the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, March 16, 2007.  Officiating minister was Dr. Dan Duncan, pastor of Fulton Bridge Baptist Church.  Others who paid tribute were brother-in-law Jim Davis, and long-time friend and employee, Thomas Roden.  The service fittingly concluded with Duane Hughes' reading of "A Hunter's Prayer" by Paul Meek.  Music was provided by Barbara Miller and Jack Blalock.  Pall bearers were Coy Cox, Jim Davis, Jr., Ricky Irvin, Carl Lucas, Olen Miles, Gary Mixon, Sonny Nix, and Danny Pittman.  Burial followed in Fulton Bridge Cemetery in Hamilton.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ann Weeks, a daughter, Maxanne Loftis and husband Andy, of Montgomery, and a son, Dr. Clark Weeks and wife, Melany of Winfield; four grandchildren - Anna Claire Loftis, Ben Loftis, Brenton Weeks, and Logan Weeks; four sisters - Christine McKay, Dot Miles, Faye Pittman, all of Winfield, Grace Cochran of Jackson, MS, and one brother - Fred Weeks of Winfield.

Mr. Charles Hammitte,  age 77, of Hamilton, Alabama passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at Marion Regional Nursing Home in Hamilton, Alabama.

Mr. Hammitte was born in Kentucky on March 10, 1930, the son of the late Sherman and Bessie Hodge Hammitte and was married to Mabel Turner Hammitte.  He was a highly decorated soldier and earned a Bronze Star in the Korean War.  He was, by trade, a Machine Operator.

Miller, Horace B. "H. B." - Age 66 - Montgomery, AL (Formerly of Hamilton, AL)

MILLER, Horace B. "H. B.", age 66, died Friday, March 2, 2007at 6:45AM at Jackson Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mr. Miller was a native of Hamilton, AL and a resident of Montgomery, AL. Mr. Miller was a captain with the Alabama State Troopers, retiring after 33 years of service and was a member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Almon and Della Miller; brother, Bill Miller; and a son Ken Miller.

Survivors in­clude his wife, Dorothy Miller; one son, Tim (Becky) Miller, both of Montgomery, and their children, Marla, Maegan, Almon and Luke Miller. Also survived by Ken Miller's children, Corporal Brian Miller, Amber Lynn Miller and PV#2 Jeff Miller, U. S. Army.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 3, 2007 at10:30AM at Eastern Hills Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Marshall officiating. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be retired Alabama State Troopers.

Visitation will be Saturday from 8:30 AM until 10:30 AM at the church. Burial will be Saturday after­noon at 4 PM at the Bexar United Methodist Church Cemetery in Hamilton, AL with honors by the Alabama State Trooper's Honor Guard.

Adis Mae Riggins age 82 of Guin, AL died Friday, March 23, 2007 in the Northwest Medical Center in Winfield, AL.

She was born in Smithville, MS. to the late Benny Lee and Ella Mae Beek Riggins and the wife of the late Henry B. Riggins. She had lived in Guin most of her life and was a member of the New Hope Church Of Christ. She had worked for Reltoc for over 20 years.

She is survived by two sons, Clarence Riggins, Sr. of Guin, AL and Henry Olan Riggins of Winfield, AL; 8 Grandchildren; 18 Great Grandchildren and 7 Great Great Grandchildren; a sister, Betty Joe Bucannon of Cincinnati, OH and a brother, Clyde White of Detroit, MI.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ledelia Hall, and a brother, Clarence White.

Dewey Colley age 87 of Guin, AL died Thursday, March 22, 2007 in the Oak Tree Plantation Assisted Living Center in Amory, MS.

Born in Haleyville, AL. He is the Son of the late Jessie Vernon and Della Parrish Colley. He had lived in Guin since 1943 and was a member of the Liberty Free Will Baptist Church. He was a Free Will Baptist Minister and had been preaching for 55 years. He also was a Veteran of World War II having served in the US Navy.

He is survived by his Wife, Willie Mae Chaffin Colley of Guin, AL, Two Daughters, Rose Duncan of Tuscaloosa, AL and Joyce Windham of Amory, MS, 5 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren, and A Sister, Vetrice Cunningham of Fayette, AL.

He was also preceded in death by 4 Sisters and 2 Brothers.

Ruth Loggains Allison, age 86, of Sulligent, AL died Saturday March 17, 2007 at her residence.

Born in Lamar County to the late Demp and Edna Earl Ray Loggains and the Wife of the late Wayne Allison. She was a graduate of Sulligent High School and Baylor University where she received a degree as a Register Nurse Anesthetist. She retired from the Lamar County Hospital after twenty-five years of Service. She was a member of the Sulligent United Methodist Church and the Eastern Star also the Ladies VFW Auxiliary.

Survived by a Sister in Law: Jo Loggains of Tupelo MS, a Niece: Cindy Sparks and her Sons: Sam and Taylor Sparks of Tupelo, MS, and a Host of other Nieces and Nephews.

Preceded in death by her Parents and Husband, Two Sisters: Robbie Ray Fowler and Ruby Loggains, A Brother: Samuel Noah Loggains.

Frances Eulean Webb Castergine, age 74, of Elberta, Alabama passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2007.

She was the daughter of the late Abraham Lincoln and Ellie Mae Chaffin Kimbrell. She was the past Queen of the Floppy Moxies Chapter of the Red Hat Society, a past chair person of the House Committee of the Elks Lodge in Foley, Alabama, an active member of the American Legion of Pensacola and the Lillian Community Club and she was involved with raising money for veterans groups in the area.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda Webb Knowlton, Elberta, AL, Brenda Webb Pearce, Birmingham, AL, and Pat Webb Spiller, Winfield, AL; sons, Curtis Webb and Tony Webb, both of Elberta, AL; brothers, Thomas Wayne and W.R. Kimbrell, both of Brilliant, AL; sisters, Jeweldean Hulsey, Hamilton, AL and Sue Rogers, Haleyville, AL; 7 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William Herman Webb, and second husband, John Castergine.

A private service will be held in Brilliant at a later date.

Rachel Odelle Kilgore, age 39, of Columbus, MS passed away Saturday March 24, 2007 at the University Hospital in Jackson, MS.

She was born in Jefferson County to James V. (Doodle) and Lou Kilgore. She was a graduate of the Shades Valley High School.

Born in Lamar County, AL. She is the Daughter of the late William Evans and Callie Perkins Jackson and the Wife of the late Robert Lake Nolen. She had lived in Sulligent most of her life. She had worked for Dave Fines Store and was a member of the Sulligent First Baptist Church.

She was also preceded in death by a Granddaughter, Vickie Dubose, 3 Brothers and a Step Daughter.

CULBERTSON, RICHARD, age 69, of Gattman, MS, formerly of Belflower, CA, died Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at his residence. 

Visitation today, March 26, 2007, at 3:00 p.m., followed by Funeral Services at 4:00 p.m. at Otts Funeral Home Chapel; Cremation to follow.  Stephen C. Colvin was the officiating minister.

Mr. Culbertson was born April 29, 1937, in Whitmire, S.C., he was the son of the late Clyde Alvin and Rosa Marcelle Clevland Culbertson. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Hamilton, AL. He served in the U.S. Navy and owned Culbertson and Associates, where he was a data base programmer.

Survivors include his wife - Virginia Culbertson; son - Richard Gene (Julie) Culbertson, Costa Mesa, Calif.; daughters - Jennifer Lynne Culbertson, Santa Monica, Calif., and Kathy Marcelle (Matthew) Evans, Belflower, Calif.; and grandchildren - Kimberly and Samuel Culbertson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents; 2 brothers, Clyde Alvin Jr., and William Perry Culbertson; and step-father, William Aarron Conner.

Mildred Nadine Tidwell Strickland - Age 93 - Huntsville, AL
Feb. 25, 1914 - March 2, 2007

Mildred Nadine Strickland, 93, of Huntsville passed away Thursday, March 2, 2007, following a short but courageous battle with lung cancer. She was fortunate to have enjoyed excellent mental and physical health until her recent illness.

Nadine was born Feb. 25, 1914, in Kansas, Walker County, to the late Oscar and Pinkie Tidwell. She graduated from Carbon Hill High School and married Carter Bartly Strickland of Carbon Hill on February 17, 1934, a marriage that lasted 66 years. She lived most of her life in Carbon Hill and Jasper. Over the years, Nadine and Carter regularly participated in gospel singings, where they both sang while she played piano. In addition, she taught piano lessons for a number of years. They experienced various opportunities to become professional singers but opted simply to enjoy music as a reward in itself while bringing pleasure and solace to others. Some may also remember Nadine as an Avon representative while living in Jasper; she worked in this field for more than 20 years. She moved to Huntsville in 2002, following the death of Carter to live near her two daughters.

She is survived by her daughters, Doris Strickland Cline and Mary Ann Grainger of Huntsville; her son, James Carter Strickland of Conyers, Ga.; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by two brothers, Morris Everett Tidwell of Carbon Hill, and Paul Eugene Tidwell of Kodak, Tenn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Christine Bobo of Carbon Hill, and Mary Lois Smith of Palm Beach, Fla.; her grandson, Douglas Wilson Cline; and great-grandson, Matthew Carter Cline. Six surviving grandchildren are Carter Ray Cline and family of Fredericksburg, Va.; Dana Nadine Rich and family of Flagstaff, Ariz.; Charles Edward Grainger Jr. and family of Prattville, Guy Bartly Grainger of Huntsville, James Dale Strickland of Centerton, Ark., and Deborah Elizabeth Strickland and family of Conyers.

Visitation will be at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home in Jasper from 6 to 8 p.m. today. The funeral service will be at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, near Carbon Hill, at 11 a.m. Saturday with burial in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the start of services.

Lois Ann Perry Brasher, age 59, of Winfield, Alabama, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2007, at her residence.

Ms. Brasher was born July 27, 1947, in Marion County, to the late Nola Rachel Voce Perry. She graduated in 1965 from Brilliant High School in Brilliant Alabama. She was the wife of the late William "Bill" Brasher.

Funeral Services were held Wednesday, March 14, 2007, 11:00 a.m. from the McGraw Memorial Chapel of Miles Funeral Home of Winfield, AL. Harry Saylor and Dewayne Smith were the officiating ministers. Burial was in the West Alabama Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Gu-Win, AL.

She is survived by her son, Chad (Kristie) Brasher of Winfield, AL; 2 daughters, Shana Stanford of Winfield, AL and Vanessa (Sam) Stinson of Laurel, MS; 2 grandchildren, Valerie and Ashton Brasher of Winfield, AL; 1 sister, Doris Morris of Tuscaloosa, AL; 2 nieces and 3 nephews.

Dean Woodham, age 80, Hamilton, Alabama passed away Friday, March 30, 2007.

Dean was a strong Christian and a long time member of Huffman Baptist Church, Birmingham, AL and more recently of First Baptist Church of Hamilton, AL. He was a lifetime Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Division Director. He was a devoted spouse and loving father of one son. Dean graduated from Hamilton High School and received his Associates Degree in Business Administration from Massey Business College, Birmingham, AL. He is a veteran of World War II. He retired from McWane Case Iron Pipe Co. as a supervisor and later was superintendent of Oak Hills Memorial Cemetery for many years.

Dean was preceded in death by his son Ricky Dean Woodham; his parents, Rev. Leland Woodham and Ollie Mae Franks Woodham; brother, Vaudrey Woodham; sisters, Verdilee Parker and Dorothy Hutchinson.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Cason Woodham and many nieces and nephews, and his dear friends of 56 years, Glen and Willene Clark.

The visitation will be from 9:00- 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 02, 2007, at the First Baptist Church with the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Eddie Davidson and Rev. Randy Wright officiating the service. Graveside service with Military Honors will be held at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, Trussville, AL at 3:30 pm.

Tidwell, Everett “Tid” - Age 76 - Formerly of Hamilton, AL

Retired State Game Warden, Everett “Tid” Tidwell, passed away Monday, March 26, 2007 at his residence.

Funeral will be Wednesday, March 28 at 2 p.m. from the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Tim Harris officiating. Music will be orchestrated by Angie Kelly and Kim Millican. Graveside service will be at the Liberty Missionary Baptist Cemetery in Detroit, Ala.

Mr. Tidwell was born July 27, 1930 to the late Pinkney and Ida Carter Tidwell in Hamilton, Ala. Mr. Tidwell’s life was spent in service of his country, his community, his home and his family beginning with his service in the U.S. Army and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Tidwell worked for 30 years for the State of Alabama. He began his career with the Department of Corrections as a Kilby Prison guard. He continued from there to Livingston, Ala. where he served as a book keeper with the Department of Corrections.

From there he went to Jackson County where he was involved with the first refuge management areas of Skyline Wildlife. He moved to Lamar County in 1964 as a state game warden where he served his community until his retirement in 1991. Mr. Tidwell enjoyed his many years of service here in Lamar County and loved and respected everyone in his community and was beloved by many. He was a lifetime member of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, a 50 year Mason, Boy Scouts of America Volunteer and member of the State Police Association.

Mr. Tidwell leaves behind his wife, Pauline Tidwell; son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Lynn Johnson of Tanner; granddaughter, Tripp and Paul Butler of Scottsboro; great-grandchildren, Barcley and Blair Butler of Scottsboro; brothers, Eugene and Helen Tidwell of Hamilton and Ray Tidwell of Muscle Shoals; sisters, Dean Ledbetter of Muscle Shoals and June and Doris Mann of Muscle Shoals; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers will be Gary Millican, Olen Seay, Eddie Stripling, Blake Gilstrap, Doris Mann and Danny Ledbetter.

Couch Sr., Robert Lee - Age 87 - Trussville, AL (formerly of Winfield, Alabama)

ROBERT LEE COUCH, SR., was promoted to glory on his 87th birthday, March 29,2007.

He was a veteran of World War II. He served with the Army Air Corps, 433 Group, 67th Troop Carrier Squadron, as a medic and saw duty in the Southwest Pacific theatre including New Guinea, Northern Solomon Islands, The Philippines, Bismarck Islands and others. He was one of those special people that are sometimes referred to as the "Greatest Generation" and he served honorably to protect our nation. After military service, he graduated from the University of Alabama with a major in Accounting. He was employed by the U. S. Government for 30 years and subsequently worked with the State of Alabama for five years.

He was a native of Winfield, Alabama and was preceded in death by his parents, Alec and Jeffie Couch, four brothers (Raymond, Delmas, Mack, and Tom), and two sisters (Helen Couch, Merle Couch Yates).

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Dorothy Westbrook Couch; three sons, Robert Jr. (Kay) of Tucson, AZ., Michael (Karen), and Ken (Carol) of Birmingham; Grandchildren Leigh Kennedy (Patrick), Amiee Couch, Kimberly Couch, Noel Couch (Mindy); One Great-granddaughter, McKenzie Couch, One brother, Alec, Jr.; seven sisters, Jean Moore, Naomi Waldrop, Ola Nail, Lillian Langston, Dorothy Smith, Erin Burleson, Martha Mims; many nieces and nephews.

Robert is loved by many friends and family members, who were his greatest joys and sense of accomplishment. He accepted Christ as his Savior after WWII, and spent the remainder of his life supporting the cause of Christ. He served the Lord with his financial talents, and also as a Sunday school teacher. He was a charter member of the Eastern Hills Baptist Church in Montgomery, AL and most recently is a member of Huffman Baptist Church. He is a member of the Harvester Sunday School class. He leaves a long legacy of service to our Lord.

Pritchett, Rachel Nadine Burley - Age 78 - Homewood, AL (Formerly of Hamilton, AL)

PRITCHETT, RACHEL NADINE BURLEY, age 78, of Homewood, passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2007.

She was born in 1929 in Cameron, WV and attended Cameron Elementary and High School, class of 1948. Mrs. Pritchett graduated from Ashland College, Ashland, OH, in 1952 and received a Bachelors Degree in Music. She taught music in Ohio and Texas schools before moving to Alabama. She married L. D. Pritchett, Hamilton, AL in 1964. Mrs. Pritchett was a life-time member of the Living Church of God, formerly the Worldwide Church of God. Mr. and Mrs. Pritchett lived in Hamilton, Alabama, and she taught music at Belgreen School, as well as, private piano lessons to students from Hamilton, Haleyville, and Phil Campbell. In Hamilton and after moving to Homewood, she and her husband owned and operated Pritchett's Piano Sales and Service for 30 years, while she continued teaching private music lessons. She sang with the Birmingham Concert Chorale for several years and took private voice lessons from Evelyn Beasley Errolle, director of Errolle Studio of Voice and Opera. Mrs. Pritchett was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, L. D. Pritchett; her father, John Earl Burley; and mother, Bertha Bell Simmons of Cameron, WV. She is survived by nieces by marriage, Patricia F. Ryan (David) of Birmingham and Judy P. Danford (Bob) of Castle Rock, CO; sisters-in law, Grace Pritchett Farr of Hamilton, Luna Hudson of Jasper, and Flara V. Webb of Gardendale, brothers-in law, J.C. Pritchett (Willa Dean), Eugene Pritchett (Jean), Sterling Pritchett (Frankie) all of Forestdale, and R. C. Pritchett of Cahaba Heights; and a host of nieces and nephews by marriage.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 20, 2007, from 5:00-7:30 pm at the Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home in Hoover. Walker Sr., Thomas Greene - Age 80 - Hoover, AL (Family in Hamilton, AL)

THOMAS GREENE WALKER, SR., age 80, of Hoover, passed away at a local hospital on Saturday, March 3, 2007, surrounded by his beloved family.

He was born July 23, 1926, in Bankston, AL, the son of the late Ernest F. Walker, Sr. and Mary Melinda Martin Walker. He was a devoted and loving husband, brother, father, and a greatly beloved "Paw" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his cherished wife of 61 years, Faye Braswell Walker. Thomas and Faye Walker were blessed to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a trip to Virginia and Washington with their children. He is survived by his children, daughter Brenda Marie Walker Cash (Gilbert) of Concord, AL and son Thomas G. Walker, Jr. (Betty) of Montevallo, AL; by his grandchildren: Brandon Joseph Cash (Amy) of Louisville, KY, Melinda Quackenbush (Charlie), Justin Cash, Matt Walker (Elizabeth) of Montgomery, Jane Walker, and Jeff Walker; and by his great-grandchildren: Rebecca Cash, Zachary Cash, Caitie Childers, Ashley Childers, Brynley Quackenbush, and Matthew Cash. He is also survived by his brother, Ernest F. Walker Jr., (Cora) of Homossassa, FL, and his sister Evelyn W. Raper of Hamilton, AL, and brothers-in-law James B. Braswell, Luther J. Braswell, and Earnest L. Braswell (Shirley), and by a host of other loving family members and dear friends.

Following in the footsteps of his own father who served as a rural mail carrier, Mr. Walker was a dedicated civil servant, retiring as a superintendent from the United States Post Office after a career of 42 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy in World War II. He was a dedicated Friend of the American Village and its Colonial Chapel, a member of Post 134 (Homewood) of the American Legion, the Sons of the American Revolution, Caledonian Society of Alabama, Hoover Historical Society, Friends of Hoover Library, Arlington Historical Association, Birmingham Chapter of Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge, and other organizations. He was a rock of quiet strength, Christian faith, good humor, support and love to his wife Faye and to his entire family. The family publicly expresses great thanksgiving to God for the life of this good man.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 6, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m., at Ridout's Elmwood Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 7, at the Lucille Ryals Thompson Colonial Chapel at The American Village, in Montevallo, the Rev. Dr. James F. Tuohy, officiating. Margie Othelia Camp, 82, died Thursday, March 29, 2007, at the Community Hospice House in Verona after a long illness. She was born March 25, 1925, in Alabama to the late John Walter Oliver and Delia Yocum Oliver. She retired from the Dekalb County School System, where she was the purchase agent for the school library. She was a member of North Peachtree Baptist Church. She will be remembered as a loving mother and a devoted wife.

JONES JR., THOMAS PAUL - Age 93 - Winfield, AL  3/18/07


Mr. Thomas Paul Jones Jr., age 93 of Winfield, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2007 in the Northwest Medical Center at Winfield.

Mr. Jones was born on December 18, 1913 in Atlanta, GA a son of Thomas Paul Jones Sr. and Lucille Lynn Jones; moved to Winfield in 1927; resided and worked as a Crane Operator for Continental Steel in Kokomo, IN for 18 years before returning to Winfield in 1969; was a Barber until retirement.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Pearlie Weeks Jones; and a brother, Raymond Jones.

Survivors include two daughters, Paulette (Ray) Early of Winfield and Martha (Eddy) Campbell of Fayette; six grandchildren, Kyle Campbell, Niki (Lance) Holliman, Lori Campbell, Andy (Amy) Clelland, Amanda (Matt) Sewell and Fallon (Taylor) Sansing; five great-grandchildren, Cole and Claire Holliman, Malachi and Mailee Pearl Sewell and Tia Jade Sansing; one brother, Jack Benton Jones of Decatur, AL; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 11:00 AM from the Winfield City Cemetery. Kenneth Stough and Eddy Campbell were the officiating ministers.

James, Horace Jackson - Age 69 - Winfield, AL

Mr. Horace Jackson James, age 69 of Winfield, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2007 in the Long Term Center at Fayette.

Mr. James was born on September 20, 1937 in Colbert Co. a son of Harley Hudson James and Pearl McBrayer James; Graduate of Deshler High School; retired from H.H. Robertson Construction Co. with 30 years of service; member of Tuscumbia National Guard for 11years; owned and operated Class I Erectors Construction Co; imported granite and marble from China for household purposes and various businesses; resident of Winfield past eight years; enjoyed farm work with cattle and horses; and a member of Alabama Cattleman’s Association.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty James.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ann May James of Winfield; one son, Derrick Lynn James of Columbus, OH; two daughters, Delena (Thomas) Langley and Deidre (Jamie) Francis, both of Winfield; four grandchildren, Dalton Langley, Brayden, Bailey and Briley Francis; one brother, Nelson James of Tuscumbia; two sisters, Faye DeVaney of Russellville and Becky Hightower of Sheffield; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral Services were held Friday, March 23, 2007 at 7:00 PM from the McGraw Memorial Chapel of Miles Funeral Home. T. A. Duke was the officiating minister. Burial followed Saturday in the Winfield City Cemetery.

Spinato, Pat - Age 83 - Guin, AL

Mr. Pat Spinato, age 83 of Guin, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at his residence.

Mr. Spinato was born on May 5, 1923 in New York a son of Severio and Carmella Manga Spinato; resident of New York most of his life; resident of Winfield and Guin areas for past 22 years; Graduate of PS Eleven in Manhattan, NY; WWII US Army Veteran; retired from Teamsters in New York as a Delivery Truck Driver; and a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Winfield.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Nicholas and Salvatore Spinato; a great-grandchild, Michaela Stewart; and a son-in-law, Alexander Harquail.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Maggie Carter Spinato, Guin; one son, Kenneth John (Sonya) Spinato of Vidor, TX; one daughter, Carol Spinato of Guin; seven grandchildren, Al Harquail, Michelle Hollis, Lana Harquail Stewart, Sherry Spinato, Amber Akers, K.J. Spinato and Andrea Spinato; ten great-grandchildren, Serenity Stanley, Te-Leah Knight, Alexis Hollis, Aaliyah Hollis, Hunter Harquail, Aliza Harquail, Mylynn Hawkins, Madison Harquail, Marlana Stewart and Brody Renshaw; one brother, Christopher Spinato of Staten Island, NY; two sisters, Frances Badajos of Hoboken, NJ and Anna Salemi of PA; host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral Mass was Friday, March 23, 2007 at 11:00 AM from the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Winfield. Father Pete Peterson officiated.

Active Pallbearers were Al Harquail, Ed McNees, Danny Stanley, Doyle Carter, Ron Norris and Jessi Carter. Burial followed in the Antioch Cemetery.

Lenahan, Ukle W. - Age 91 - Guin, AL

Mr. Ukle W. Lenahan, age 91 of Guin, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2007 at his residence.

Mr. Lenahan was born October 22, 1915 in Marion Co. to _ Lenahan and Hannah Garfield May Lenahan.  He was a resident of Winfield area most of his life; Graduate of Marion County High School and Florida Barber and Beauty College at Jacksonville, FL; retired in 1985 from the City Barber Shop as Co-Owner with 37 years of service; WWII US Army Veteran; member of American Legion Post 100 at Winfield; and a member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church having served as Sunday School Superintendent and Treasurer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Hawkins Lenahan; and six brothers and sisters.

Survivors include one son, Thomas D. “Tommy” (Brenda) Lenahan of Guin; one grandson, Chase Lenahan of Tuscaloosa; one sister, Mrs. Nora Sullins of B’ham; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral Services were held Thursday, March 15, 2007 at 2:00 PM from the McGraw Memorial Chapel of Miles Funeral Home. Paul Gray was the officiating minister. Burial followed in the Zion Cemetery.

Neal, Bessie Pugh - Age 88 - Winfield, AL

Mrs. Bessie Pugh Neal, age 88 of Winfield, passed away Friday, March 16, 2007 in the Care Center at Vernon.

Mrs. Neal was born November 26, 1918 in Lamar Co. a daughter of John Elise Pugh and Victoria Harris Pugh; resident of Winfield most of her life; widow of Stanley Neal; and she attended Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Darline; a grandson, Keith Webster; a brother, Tommy Pugh; and three sisters, Susan Pugh, Pearlie Robinson and Eula Robinson.

Survivors include one son, Kenneth (Patricia) Neal of Winfield; one daughter, Carolyn (Phillip) Webster of Fayette; three grandchildren, Scott (Myra) Webster, Jill (Matt) Graham and Leslie (Robert) Cobb; four great-grandchildren, Mason Webster, Abby Webster, Conner Graham and Hayden Cobb; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral Services were held Sunday, March 18, 2007 at 2:00 PM from the Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church. Dale Hubbert was the officiating minister. Burial followed in the Mt. Hebron Cemetery with Miles Funeral Home of Winfield directing the service.

Active Pallbearers were Gary Robinson, Mike Robinson, Johnny Robinson, Tommy Perry, Raymond Smothers and Thomas Ray Pugh.

Debra Mae Lee Michael, age 50, Leeds, passed away Monday, March 26, 2007.

She is survived by her husband, Dwight Michael, Leeds, AL; children and extended family, Christopher (Jessica) Michael, Birmingham, AL, Tiffany (Scott) Holden, Tuscumbia, AL, Jennifer Michael, Leeds, AL, Michelle Walls, Decatur, AL and Stephanie (Kris) Brady, Birmingham, AL; 5 grandchildren; parents, Tracie and Beulah Mae Cochran Lee, Winfield, AL; brothers, Sammy T. Lee, Jasper, AL and Tracie Lee Jr., Winfield, AL; sisters, Rejina Aldridge, Winfield, AL and Opal Edwards, Haleyville, AL; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral Service will be Wednesday, March 28, 2007, 2:00 p.m. from the Solid Rock Church at Haleyville, AL. Ms. Michael will lie in state 12:00 Noon until 2:00 p.m. at the church. Parke Crisler was the officiating minister. Burial to follow in Harmony Grove Cemetery in Winfield, AL.

Howard Tittle, age 78, of Brilliant, Alabama, passed away Friday, March 23, 2007, at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham.

Mr. Tittle was born December 5, 1928, in Brilliant, to the late James Oscar and Sarah Frances Lang Tittle.

Funeral services were held Sunday, March 25, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. from the Randy Lawrence Memorial Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home of Winfield AL with burial in the Center Cemetery in Brilliant, AL. Bro. Vance Hutton was the officiating minister.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Barnes Tittle; 1 son, Charles (Jeanette) Tittle, Brilliant, AL; 1 daughter, Teresa Tittle (James) Smith, Jasper, AL; 3 grandchildren, Ginger Tittle (Jason) Eatmon, Carrolton, AL, Paula Tittle (Jon) Hatton, Florence, AL and Wesley Smith, Jasper, AL; 6 brothers, Edward, Robert, James Loyd, Earnest, Dennis, and Rickey Tittle; 1 sister, Lorene Farris; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Verna Lee Baughn, 84, of Amory, Mississippi, passed away Sunday, March 25, 2007, at the Golden Living Nursing Home in Amory, Miss.

Ms. Baughn was born March 2, 1923, in Walker County, to the late William Edd and Ratchel Savanah Thomas Collin.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at 11 a.m. from the Randy Lawrence Memorial Chapel of Lawrence Funeral home of Winfield with burial in the Camp Comfort Cemetery in Fayette. Ronny Elmore was the officiating minister.

Survivors include her son, Terry (Regina) Baughn, Castalian Springs, Tennessee; 2 daughters, Brenda (Randy) Welford, Amory, Mississippi and Sharon (Jim) Harkness, Tuscaloosa, Alabama; 7 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Wayne Baughn.
