Jones, Annette - Age 64 - Winfield, AL

ANNETTE JONES, age 64, of Winfield, died Sunday, April 1, 2007 at her residence.

Mrs. Jones was born January 26, 1943 in Marion County, a daughter of Marvin and Eva Birchfield Willcutt. She was a resident of Brookside most of her life and attended Brookside and Brilliant Schools. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Christopher Hester and Anthony Dewayne Hester.


Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband, James Jones; one son, Brian (Renee) Jones of Rock City; two daughters, Theresa Hester (Thomas) Venson of Cullman, and Angie Jones (Tim) Farris of Lynn; one brother, Orville Willcutt of Brilliant; six sisters, Bobbie Mayfield of Florence, Audie Johnson of Guin, Polly Clark of Winfield, Glenda Podmore of Winfield, Ileen Wyers of Bankston, and Betty Miller of Winfield; one brother in-law, D. W. Jones; and eight grandchildren, Jacob Hinkle, Nathan Hinkle, Josh Hinkle, Noah Hinkle, Mason Jones, Brianna Hubbert, Collin Gilbert, and Joshua Hester.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at 1:00 PM from the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in the Jones Family Cemetery with Jerry Self and Jason Martin officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

Mrs. Walters is the mother of Les Walters of Hamilton.  Mrs. Walters was born January 14, 1926 in Andalusia, Alabama to Joseph & Maude Graves Duffell.  She worked as a Deli Worker in a Sandwich Shop.  Ms. Walters was a member of the Hamilton First Baptist Church of Hamilton, AL. and a member of the Oasis Choir.

She is survived by her son, Les Walters and his wife Sheri of Hamilton, AL.; Grandsons, Sloan Garrett Walters of Starkville, MS., and Chance Drayden Walters of Starkville, MS.; 1 sister, Annie Maude Barrentine of Dothan, AL.; and a host of relatives & friends.

Willie D. Stephenson, age 59, of Winfield, Alabama (formerly of Greenwood Springs, Mississippi), died Friday, April 6, 2007, at Northwest Medical Center in Winfield.

He was born Nov. 20, 1947, in Walker County, Alabama, to the late Dock Lee and Emma Gilmore Stephenson. He attended Smithville High School and also attended Wesley Chapel Methodist Church. He was a former truck driver for Butler and Company in Vernon, Alabama, and Knights Trucking in Detroit, Alabama. He also worked in maintenance at Red Kap in Amory, Mississippi and McCoy Manufacturing in Sulligent, Alabama. He enjoyed fishing.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Otts Funeral Home Chapel in Sulligent. Burial will be in the Mt. Hebron Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Verla White Stephenson of Winfield, Alabama; two daughters, Wendy Moore of Wren, MS. and Amanda Red of Aberdeen, MS.; one son, Chad Mosley of Winfield, AL.; six grandsons; three granddaughters; two sisters, Barbara Edwards (Michael) of Smithville, MS. and Cherry Scarabrough (Roger) of Greenwood Springs, MS.; and one brother, Craig Stephenson (Del) of Amory, MS.

Tommy Comer, 73, died Friday, April 6, 2007, at his home. He was born April 25, 1933, in Lamar County, Ala., to the late Albert Comer and Maude Moore. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a former employee of Marathon Equipment. He enjoyed his tractor, farming and spending time with his family.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Otts Funeral Home Chapel in Sulligent, Ala., with Bro. Glenn Boman and Bro. Wayne Dove officiating. Burial will be in Wofford Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, April 7, 2007, at the funeral home.

She was born July 2, 1915, in Alabama to Andrew and Lena Cantrell. She was a lifelong resident of Nettleton. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She enjoyed cooking and collecting what-nots.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at the Chapel of Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Nettleton with the Rev. Horace Barnes and the Rev. Mike Brazeal officiating. Burial will be in Crews Cemetery near Sulligent, Ala.

Survivors include five daughters, Lottie Edwards, Shelby Gray (Travis), Mandy Clayton and Linda J. Peggy Ann Lynch, 54, died Sunday, April 8, 2007, at her daughter's home in Red Bay, Ala.

She was born Jan. 17, 1953, in New Site to Troy and Flora Mae Wilemon Lynch. She was a factory worker and a former employee of Falcon. She was a member of Golden Central Baptist Church.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Golden Central Baptist Church with Bro. Mickey Trammel and Bro. Bobby Stancil officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Creek Cemetery.

Survivors include three daughters, Loretta Robinson (Greg) of Red Bay, Kim Nunley (Greg) of Golden and Misty Shotts (Jesse) of Columbus, Ga.; two brothers, Bobby Joe Wilemon (Kathryn) and Jackie Wilemon of Belmont; three sisters, Betty Bentley (Anthony), Cathy George and Patsy Elrod, all of Red Bay; five grandchildren, Brent Robinson, Clint Robinson and Evan Robinson, all of Red Bay, and Cody Tucker and Laken Tucker of Golden.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Larry Wilemon, Ted Wilemon, James Wilemon and Roy Wilemon.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today and continue until service time Wednesday at the church.

Creekmore, William "Junior" - Age 83 - Kenosha, Wisconsin

William "Junior" Creekmore, 82, died Monday, April 9, 2007, at the Care Center of Red Bay, Ala.

He was born Dec. 15, 1924, in Alabama to William Jasper and Eva Jackson Creekmore. He was an employee of American Motors for 36 1/2 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Ebenezer Cemetery with Bro. Tom Scott officiating.

Survivors include one granddaughter, Melinda Creekmore of Kenosha, Wis.; one brother, Vernon Creekmore of Lexington, Tenn.; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Creekmore of Kenosha; several nieces and nephews; two special friends and caregivers, So Young Platt and Bok Yae An of Kenosha.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Delphia Creekmore; his second wife, Betty Creekmore; a son, Bobby Creekmore; his parents; a sister, Viola Humphries; and two brothers, Hollis Creekmore and Willard Creekmore.

Pallbearers will be Harold Creekmore, Jimmy Tate, Jack Hice, Wayne Edwards, Mike Jones and Wesley Miller.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Elsie E. Wilson Mitchell, age 89, died Sunday, April 8, 2007, at her home.

She was born Sept. 28, 1917, in Franklin County, Ala., to Charles Anderson and Laura Francis Guinn Wilson. She was a factory worker at Worwick in Zion, Ill., and a charter member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay with Bro. Billy Nichols and Bro. Danny Stanford officiating. Burial will be in Dempsey Cemetery.

Survivors include a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Mitchell; her parents; three brothers, Claude Wilson, Clarence Wilson and Lester Wilson; and a sister, Rader Pierce.

Pallbearers will be Jaime Harrison, Scotty Hardin, Jon Taylor, Phillip Hardin, Greg Istvanek and Jason Harrison.

Margaret Hicks Cochran, 78, died Sunday, April 8, 2007, at her home.

She was born March 18, 1929, in Alabama to Daniel and Delia McCarley Hicks. She was a member of Hodges Church of Christ and a homemaker.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. today at Hodges Church of Christ with Bro. Steve Gober officiating. Burial will be in Old Line Cemetery.

Survivors include two sisters, Lola Brand of Guin, Ala., and Marie Williams of Hodges, Ala.; a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kinard Cochran; a son, Danny Cochran; and three brothers, James Hicks, Lee Hicks and Harrison Hicks.

Ann Humphres, 69, died Thursday, April 12, 2007, at the Red Bay Hospital.

She was born Oct. 13, 1937, in Vina, Ala., to Jessie B. and Nettie Johnson Knight. She was the cafeteria manager at Vina High School. She was a member of Hurricane Creek Baptist Church.

Mayhall, William Ray “Pete” - Age 76 - Golden, MS

William Ray “Pete” Mayhall, age 76, died Thursday, April 12, 2007, at his home.

He was born Feb. 22, 1931, in Itawamba County to Dewey and Nadean Paden Mayhall. He was a farmer for 50 years and a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Services were at 3 p.m. Saturday at Antioch Baptist Church with Bro. Bob O’Neil and Bro. Wayne Bumgart officiating. Burial was in Butler Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Murley Mayhall of Golden; three children, Elvie Ray Mayhall (Peggy), Martha Chestnut (Danny) and Linda Ewing (Gene), all of Golden; one stepsister, Kathleen Cochran of Winfield, Ala.; two brothers, Charles Mayhall of Tremont and Elvis Mayhall of Dorsey; one stepbrother, Marvin Rogers, of Tremont; five grandchildren, Vicky McCarley, Shawn James, William Mayhall, Sherman Chestnut and Cherrie Ewing; seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one brother, one grandson and one granddaughter.

Phillip Strickland, 27, died Saturday, April 14, 2007, at his residence.

He was born April 2, 1980, to Buddy and Martha Strickland. He loved to hunt, fish, NASCAR and taking Jonathan to the dragstrip on Sunday afternoon. He was a Baptist and a welder.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Senter Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Deaton officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Lisa Strickland of Golden; his father, Buddy Strickland of Red Bay, Ala.; his mother and stepfather, Martha and Johnny Cleveland of Golden; two sons, Jonathan Adam and Christopher Adam Strickland of the home; one stepbrother, Chase Cleveland of Red Bay, Ala.; one stepsister, Joey Sanders of Golden; a special aunt, Nelda Grimes of Golden; a special cousin, Michele Black; his grandparents, Johnny and Rebecca Strickland of Mantachie, his grandmother, Louise Cleveland of Red Bay; his father-and mother-in-law, Dennis and Martha Kennedy; his grandmother-in-law, Jean Kennedy; and many aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Chris Strickland; and his grandmother, Eleanor Hardin.

Clodia Perry, age 81, of Gu-Win, AL died Sunday, April 8, 2007 in the Beverly Health Care Center in Winfield, AL.

Born in Fayette County, Alabama. He is the Son of the late James W. and Nancy Leona Tucker Perry, and the Husband of the late Edith Gosa Perry. He had lived in Gu-Win since 1981 and was a member of the Harmony Grove Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army and received the Purple Heart.

He is survived by 1 Daughter, Pamela Perry Childree of Millbrook, AL, 1 Granddaughter, Dawn Childree Malcom, 1 Great Grandson, Ian Slade Malcom, and Two Sisters, Eardeal Couch and Ava (R. V.) Tidwell both of Winfield, AL. Several Nieces and Nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Gosa Perry, a Sister, Florene Perry and a Step Brother, James R. Henderson.

Lori was the daughter of Ernie "Heeb" and Willodean Galbreath, Sr. of Hamilton, Alabama.  Lori  Galbreath was born August 29, 1965 in Lake Forest, IL and lived there until the age of 5.  Her family relocated to Hamilton, AL. where she attended Hamilton High School and University of Alabama Extension School.  In December of 1995, Lori married Randy Stockton and moved to Mississippi in the fall of 1996, where she resided until her death.  She was a loving wife and mother of four children and will be missed dearly.

She is survived by her husband, Randy Stockton of Hollandale; 3 sons, Brandon Cleveland, U. S. Mrs. Kelley was born on March 4, 1911 in Fayette Co. a daughter of William Cay and Mary Alma Anthony Henderson; lifelong resident of Fayette Co.; retired farmer; widow of Dock Kelley; and a member of Elm Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Fraysier and Hudson Henderson; and three sisters, Murl Hulsey, Virginia Starks and Robbie Lee Bagwell.

Mr. Moore was born on February 19, 1923 in Marion Co. a son of Vandiver Clarence and Margaret Ellen Weeks Moore; resident of Winfield most of his life; retired Home Builder; previously a Sub-Contractor for King Kutter at Winfield and a City Building Inspector for Winfield; and a member of Zion Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Bridget Ann Moore; and a sister, Sarah Gray Segars.

Mr. Wendell Louis “Blue” Burleson, age 78 of Guin, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2007 in the Baptist Medical Center, Princeton at Birmingham, AL.

Mr. Burleson was born on December 27, 1928 in Marion County, Alabama, a son of Alvis Harkins Burleson and Lula Era Smith Burleson; 1950 Graduate of Winfield High School; served 3 years in US Air Force; retired as a Technician with Air National Guard at Birmingham with 23 years of service; after retirement he was employed with Miles Funeral Home for several years; played Bass and 2nd Guitar with the Buttahatchee Grass Band; charter member of Alabama Bluegrass Association; member of Guin Masonic Lodge, Winfield Chapter 208 of Eastern Star and Winfield American Legion Post 100; and a member of Free Water Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Louis Burleson.

Survivors include his wife, Myra Ann Butler Burleson of Guin; two daughters, Debbie (Craig) Sly of Fredericksburg, TX and Terri Reese of Enterprise; one step-daughter, Shirla (Clint) Webster of Northport; two step-sons, David (Donna) Adkins and Mark (Kim) Adkins, both of Guin; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, W. Eva Mae Hollis age 61 of Guin, AL died Saturday April 21, 2007 at the Northwest Medical Center in Winfield, AL.

She was born in Henderson Tennessee to the late George and Helen Shelton Willingham. She had lived in the Guin area most of her life and was a member of the Gu-Win Baptist Church. She also had worked for the Guin Manufacturing Plant as a seamstress.

He is survived by his mother, Effie Ola Grissom Green; 1 daughter, Sheila Evans; 2 sons, Eric Green and Jim (Laura) Green; 7 grandchildren, Josh Evans, Tyler Evans, Kyle Evans, Emma Kate Green, Ellen Green, Brett (Kim) Green and Ryan Green; 2 sisters, Willie Sue (Billy) Compton and Vernell Green; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

PRESCOTT, BOBBIE RAY "BOB", age 54, of Guin, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2007, at the Winston Medical Center in Louisville, Mississippi.

Miles Funeral Home Chapel service will be Wednesday, May 2, 2007, 11:00 AM with burial in West Alabama Memorial Gardens, Gu-Win. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 1, 2007,  6 - 8 PM at the funeral home.

Mr. Prescott was born on April 17, 1953, in Marion County, to Daisy Marie Dickinson and the late Ralph Prescott. He was a resident of Winfield most of his life, but after residing in Oklahoma for the past 23 years, he returned to Guin. He attended Winfield City High School, was a retired nursing assistant at the Norman Regional Medical Center in Norman, Okla., and was previously employed as a truck driver and a grain elevator operator. He was a member of the Harmony Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Heathcock Prescott, Guin; mother, Marie Dickinson Prescott, Winfield; brother, Mike (Donna) Prescott, Oklahoma City, OK; sister, Tina Prescott, Winfield; a niece, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Don Prescott, and a sister, Pat McDaniel.

CORINTH - Steve Alfred Austin, 68, died Saturday, April 28, 2007, at the Magnolia Regional Health Center. He was a Baptist and attended Life in the Word Fellowship Church. He loved his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed fishing and yard work.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with Bro. Merle Spearman and Bro. Bill Wages officiating. Burial will be in Holly Baptist Church Cemetery.

Inez A Woods, 90, passed away from this world into the arms of her Lord and Savior, on Wednesday April 25, 2007. Our precious mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and loving treasure to all whose lives she touched. She was a long time resident of Addison and a devoted member of Addison United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents Lizzie Belle and Emerson Clark Alston; her husband, Arthur Waterston Woods; her son, Arthur Woods; her sister, Alma Johnson; brothers, Garland, Earl, Bennie, Bill and Zack Alston.

She is survived by one son, Jim Woods; three daughters, Susan, Kathy and Mary Woods; two brothers, Fred and E.C. Lexie Thompson, 91, Brilliant, passed away on Monday, April 30, 2007, at her residence.

She was born March 27,1916, in Alabama, to the late Ben and Palestine Taylor Huguley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clyde Thompson; daughters, Peggy Hollingsworth and Billie Ann Butler; granddaughter, Teresa Johnson; and grandson, Jerry Hollingsworth.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at 5 p.m. from the Mt. Pleasant Free Will Baptist Church with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Keith Spencer and Jamie Jeffreys officiating.

Survivors include her son - Jimmy Thompson, San Francisco, Calif.; son-in-law - Glenn Holligsworth, Mississippi; daughter - Sherry Smith, Brilliant; sister - Burnice Auston, Guin; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren;11 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mattes - Minnie Watt Fite - Age 88 - Tuxedo Park, NY   (Formerly of Hamilton, AL)

Mattes - Minnie Watt Fite, of Tuxedo Park, NY, wife of the late Edward Charles Mattes, Sr., died April 27, 2007. She was 88.

A daughter of Minnie Watt Pierce and Ernest Baxter Fite, of Hamilton, AL, she graduated from the Juilliard School of Music and the University of Alabama. She was married for 23 years to her husband, a private investor, and was a past treasurer of the Garden Club of Orange and Dutchess Counties, NY, and a member of the Tuxedo Club, the Colony Club, the Bathing Corporation of Southampton, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of 1812, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

She is survived by three children, Edward Charles Mattes, Jr., of New York, Laura Laurens Mattes Cox, of Durham, NC, and John Baxter Mattes, of Duxbury, MA; and two grandsons, John Baxter Mattes, Jr., and James Elliott Lindsley Mattes.
