Leon "Pete" Pugh - Age 74 - Hamilton, AL

Hamilton, AL - Leon "Pete" Pugh, 74, passed away November 9, 2006 at the Courtyard Nursing Home in Fulton, MS.

Mr. Pugh was a retired Welder in the Manufactured Housing Industry and he was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents Oscar Franklin and Blanch Burrow Pugh and brothers Excel and Clanton Pugh.

Mr. Pugh is survived by one daughter, Jackie Gattis of Dayton, Texas and a host of nieces and nephews.

Brother Elvis Cochran conducted services Friday, November 10, 2006 at 1:00 pm with visitation from 12 noon until service time at the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Barnsville Cemetery, Hamilton, AL.

Inez Crowe Stewart

Guin, AL - Inez Crowe Stewart, age 71 of Guin, AL died Friday November 10, 2006 at the residence.

Born in Walker County to the late Johnny Odell and Blanc Rosie Davis Townley. She was a member of the Abundant Life Church and a resident of the Guin area for many years. She had worked for the Guin Hospital as a Nurses Aid.

She is survived by her Husband: Earl Stewart of Guin, AL, One Daughter: Kathy Crowe of Guin, AL, Six Sisters: Louise Taylor of Brilliant, AL, Doris Huff of Michigan City, Indiana, Nella Faye Alford of Birmingham, AL, Shirley Mishell of Nashville, TN, Betty Wates of Winfield, AL, and Patricia Kinsey of Lilbourn, MO, Two Brothers: Donald Ray Townley and Larry Townley of Lilbourn, MO, One Grandson: Chad Clark of Birmingham, AL.

Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by her son; Kenneth Ray (Kenny) Crowe.

Services were held Sunday November 12, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. from the Norwood Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Center Cemetery. Bro. David Beatty and Bro. Larry Wates officiating.

Visitation was Saturday November 11, 2006 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home.

Azie Lee Flynn Black Cain - Age 87 - Winfield, AL (Formerly of Beaverton, AL)

Winfield, AL/Beaverton, AL - Azie Lee Flynn Black Cain, age 87, died Wednesday, November 8, 2006, in the Northwest Medical Center in Winfield.

Born in Marion County, AL.  She was the Daughter of the late Walter & Arzone Dodd Flynn.  She had lived in Bernie, Missouri for several years and in Guin and Winfield the past 10 years. 

Ms. Cain is survived by a Daughter, Rachel Robertson of Winfield, AL; Three Grandchildren, Dewayne Black of Winfield, AL; David Black of Guin, AL and Angie Black of Mississippi; and 6 Great Grandchildren and several Nieces and Nephews.

 Services held Thursday, November 9, 2006 at 2:00 pm from the Norwood Funeral Home Chapel in Guin with burial in the Love Joy Cemetery. 

Visitation was Thursday, November 9, 2006 from 1 - 2 pm at the funeral home just prior to service.

James Verlon Irvin - Age 86 - Detroit, AL

James Verlon Irvin, age 86, of Detroit Alabama died Tuesday November 7, 2006 at the Care Center of Vernon.

Mr. Irvin was a Truck Driver by trade. 

He is survived by his Wife: Jean Knight Irvin, Three Daughters: Carolyn & Jerry Hall and Connie & Phil Frye and Cheryl & Steve Wilson, Two Sons: Johnny Otts and Jim Otts, Twelve Grandchildren, Twenty-Six Great-Grandchildren, One Great-Great Grandson and Several Nieces and Nephews. 

Preceded in death by his parents:  James Greely & Irbie Lodell Gilmore Irvin, A Sister: Velma Lovelady, One Daughter: Charlene Myatt, Three Sons: Clenton, Claxton, and Clayton Irvin and One Grandson: Donald Irvin. 

Services were held Thursday, November 9, 2006, at 2 P.M. from the Norwood Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Bro. Tim Markham, Bro. Edward Puckett and Bro. Danny Stanford Officiating.

Hoyt Lee Cook, age 76, passed away Monday, November 13, 2006 at his residence.

 Mr. Cook was a retired Mechanic with the Marion County Bus Shop.

 Funeral Services will be Thursday, November 16, 2006 at 2 P.M. at Mt. Hope Church, Hamilton, AL.  Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at 6 P.M. at Mt. Hope Church.  Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.  Bro. Elvis Cochran, Bro. David Sanderson and Bro. Jay Sullins will be the officiating ministers.

 Survivors include his wife, Dollie Cook, his son Bobby Cook, daughters, Carol & Steve Harris, Cyndra & Mitch Daniel; Grandchildren Brian & Kristie Karr, Jason Cook, Bradly Cook, Amber Fitzgerald and Layton Daniel.  Great Grandchildren:  Montana Karr, Caleb Karr, Colby cook, Tyler cook, Carley Cook and Hannah Cook.  Sisters:  Marcene Baldwin, Helen Miller and JoAnn Wusphoff.

Mr. Cook was preceded in death by his parents, William Cary ‘Kay’ & Mary Lou Rich Cook.

Hamilton, AL - Muice O. “Ben” Benefield, 81, of Hamilton, AL, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2006, at N.M.M.C., Tupelo, MS. 

Mr. Benefield was a retired GM Salesman for the GM Company in the Parts/Sales Department. 

 Funeral services will be held Friday, November 17, 2006 at 2 P.M. from the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel, Hamilton, AL, with burial in Cedar Tree Cemetery in Hackleburg, AL.  Bro. Mark Thornton will be the officiating minister.  Visitation will be Friday, November 17, 2006 from 1 – 2 P.M. at the funeral home chapel just prior to service time.

 Mr. Benefield is survived by his wife:  Bethel Lenis Benefield; daughters:  Jackie & Tony    Avery, Jane & Chuck Latham; Grandsons:  Zach Avery, Jane & Chuck Latham;  and a sister:  Vera Lea Bell Benefield Harris – Mississippi.  He was preceded in death by his parents:  George Washington & Carolyn Jocie Prestridge Benefield; and his first wife:  Sue Grissom Benefield.

Hazel Mae Williams, age 67, passed away Friday, November 17, 2006 at Hodges, AL.

Born February 4, 1939, in Marion County, Alabama, she was the daughter of Burl Wiginton and Gladys George Wiginton. Ms. Williams was a homemaker.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, November 18, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. from Antioch Baptist Church, north of Hamilton, AL. Visitation was Saturday, November 18, 2006, from 2:30 – 3:00 p.m. at the church. The officiating minister was Bro. Elvis Cochran.

Survivors include her Mother, Gladys George Wiginton, Children, Tammy Terry –Tuscumbia, AL., Danny Wiginton, Tena Renfroe, and Rebecca Kivette all of Hamilton, AL., 3 Grandchildren, 3 Great Grandchildren, Sisters: Requnia George, Vernice Evans, and Elouise Cochran; Brothers: Dennis Wiginton and David Wiginton.

Thurland L. Holcomb - Age 75 - Hamilton, AL

Thurland L. Holcomb, 75, of Hamilton, AL, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2006 at his residence.

Born June 6, 1931, in Marion County Alabama, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Molly) Elizabeth Berry Holcomb. He was a Traffic Engineer for the State of Alabama and a Veteran of the Korean Conflict. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Maxine Williford and a brother, Rev. John Holcomb.

Funeral Services will be held Sunday, November 19, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Love Joy Cemetery, north of Hamilton. Visitation will be Saturday, November 18, 2006, from 6 – 9 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. The officiating ministers will be Bro. Edward Puckett and Bro. Sammy Taylor.

Arthur Stidham - Age 84 - Hamilton, AL

Hamilton, AL - Arthur Stidham, 84, passed away Friday, November 24, 2006 at his residence. 

Born in Marion County, Alabama on January 28, 1922 to the late Woodard and Lavonia Palmer Stidham. His parents and a daughter, Pyllis Jones, preceded Mr. Stidham in death. Mr. Stidham was an Army Veteran of WWII, a retired farmer. 

Memorial Service will be held at Shiloh Baptist Church north of Hamilton, Sunday November 26, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. with interment in Shiloh Church Cemetery. Bro. Dewayne Satterwhite and Bro. Robert Huffman will be the officiating ministers.

Survivors include his wife: Bonnie Marie Stroup Stidham; daughters: Sandy (Mark) Montgomery and Karen Stidham; Grandchildren: Luke Montgomery, Chris Jones, and Pam Jackson; Great Grandchildren: Spencer Jackson and Taylor Jones; two Brothers & two Sisters.

James Key - Age 87 - Hamilton, AL

Hamilton, AL – James Key, 87, passed away Thursday, November 23, 2006 at Marion Regional Hospital in Hamilton. 

Mr. Key was born in Alabama to the late James W. and Eppy Northington Key. He was a Carpenter and an Army Veteran of WWII.

Funeral services will be at Liberty Hill Freewill Baptist Church, Saturday, November 25, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation being held at the Church from 1:00 –2:00 p.m. just prior to the funeral service. Bro. Tony Crump will be the officiating minister.

Mr. Key is survived by his wife: Meagan Spears Key; a sister, Florence Key, of Hamilton, AL and a brother, Julius Key of Los Angeles, CA.

Gladys McKinney - Age 91 - Vina, AL

DENNIS, MS - Gladys McKinney, 91, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2006, in Vina, Alabama.

She was born Feb. 10, 1915, in Dennis to Arthur Lee and Mary Lou Flurry Hopkins. She was a homemaker. Her parents; her husband, Haskel McKinney; three brothers and one sister preceded her in death. 
 
Services were at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 25, 2006, at the Tishomingo Baptist Church with Bro. Robbie Crane officiating. Burial will be in the Tishomingo City Cemetery.  
 
Survivors include four children, Bennie McKinney and wife, Quay, of Guin, Ala., Wade McKinney and wife, Mary Joe, of Nesbit, Theresa Farris and husband, Harry, of Peoria, Ala., and Neva Armstrong and husband, Dennis, of Vina, Ala.; three sisters, Velma Taylor of Iuka, Grace Rayburn of Little Rock, Ark., and Mildred Franklin of Leland; one brother, Donald Hopkins of Tishomingo; eight grandchildren, Angie Tilley and husband, Dwight, Benji McKinney, Laura McKinney, Joshua McKinney, Christina Farris, Gary Armstrong, Benton Armstrong and wife, Tasha, and Bonita Armstrong; and four great-grandchildren, Cassidy Tilley, Devin Tilley, Madisyn Armstrong and Macie Armstrong.

Hackleburg, AL - Stanley Raburn, 81, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at his residence.

He was born February 23, 1925 in Marion County, AL to the late Riley Oliver and Nella Mae Holcomb Raburn. Mr. Raburn was an Insurance Salesman and a Veteran of WWII.

Funeral Services were held Friday, November 24, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. with Visitation from 12:00 at 2:00 p.m. just prior to the service at the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Sullins Cemetery. Bro. Mark Smith and Dr. Kenny Hatcher were the officiating ministers.

Ora Lee Lann Frederick, 87, passed away Friday, November 24, 2006 at the Red Bay Hospital in Red Bay, AL.

She was born August 15, 1919 in Marion County, AL to the late Thomas Hill & Vida Wamsley Lann Ms. Frederick was retired from Wrangler in Hackleburg, AL.

The place of service was Fairview Congregational Christian Church on Sunday, November 26, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. with a viewing from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the Church. Visitation was at the Hackleburg Funeral Home in Hackleburg, Saturday, November 25, 2006, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Bro. Bobby Aderholt was the officiating minister.

Ms. Frederick is survived by her daughter, Sandra and Bobby Forsythe of Red Bay, AL; her son, Larry and Debbie Frederick of Huntsville, AL; a Granddaughter, Stephanie Humphres of Red Bay, AL; a Grandson, Jeremy Forsythe of Tuscaloosa, AL; a Great Grandson, Zachary Humphres; a Great Granddaughter, Reagan Humphres and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James Otho Frederick; a brother, Thomas Gawyer Lann, Sr., a sister-in-law Pauline Lann; 3 sisters, Delta Hayes, Autie Rayburn and Rosa Vee Lann; and 2 Brother-in-laws, Earnest Hayes and Cecil Rayburn.

Mary Lou Scott Lann - Age 80 - Detroit, AL

Detroit, AL - Mary Lou Scott Lann, age 80, died Monday, November 27, 2006 in the Northwest Medical Center in Winfield, AL.

She was born in Greenwood Springs, Mississippi and was the wife of the late Olie David Lann. She was retired from Detroit Slacks after 30 years.

Services held Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. from the Norwood Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Carter Cemetery. Bro. Danny Stanford, Bro. Tim Markham and Bro. Tommy Spruiel officiating.

Visitation was Tuesday, November 28, 2006 6:00 at 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ms. Lann is survived by a Son, Larry and Betty Lann, 2 Grandsons: Daniel Lann and Luke and Shana Lann and 2 Great grandsons: Leif Lann and Landon Lann, all of Sulligent, AL.

Dalton Dee Cox - Age 86 - Hamilton, AL

 

Hamilton , AL - Dalton Dee Cox, age 86, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at his residence.

He was born March 18, 1920 in Franklin County, Alabama to the late Daniel and Cora Wiginton Cox. Mr. Cox was a retired Construction worker who had owned and operated a Construction Business and an Army Veteran of WWII.

Services, Thursday, November 30, 2006, 11:00 a.m. at the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel with Visitation Wednesday, November 29, 2006 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Chapel.

Mr. Cox is survived by a daughter, Judy and Jimmy Green of Tuscaloosa, AL; 2 sons Don and Patricia Cox of Russellville, AL and Gary and Donna Cox of Hamilton; 8 Grandchildren; 8 Great Grandchildren and a Sister, Iranell Bobo of Haines City, FL. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Emma Jean Holley Cox; his second wife, Linda Joyce Buford Cox; 3 Brothers, Haney, Marvin and Wright Cox and a Sister, Ossie Caldwell.

The family is especially appreciative to his loving and compassionate caregivers, Donna Robinson and Ann McCarley.

Kathy Lynne Bolin - Age 41 - Sulligent, AL

SULLIGENT, Ala. - Kathy Lynne Bolin, 41, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006, at her home.

She was born Aug. 21, 1965, in Amory. She was a 1983 graduate of Sulligent High School. She was the librarian at the Sulligent Public Library for 13 years and a member of the Sulligent First Baptist Church.  
 
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Otts Funeral Home Chapel in Sulligent with Bro. Kelvin Price officiating. Burial will be in the Gilmer Addition of the Sulligent City Cemetery. 
 
Survivors include her husband, Wayne Bolin of Sulligent, Ala.; two sons, Clint Bolin and Austin Bolin, both of Sulligent; her father, Wayne Birmingham of Sulligent; two brothers, Keith Hester of Greenwood Springs and Tommy Conrad of Sulligent. 
 
She was preceded in death by her mother, Peggy Odom.

Kermit V. McKay - Age 72 - Trussville, AL

 

Trussville, AL - KERMIT V. MCKAY, age 72, died at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, November 29, 2006.

Originally from Hamilton, Kermit graduated from Hamilton High School and the University of Alabama. He served in the U.S. Air Force before college and had a lifelong love of airplanes and travel. He was an active member of McElwain Baptist Church for many years and retired from Fontaine Specialized, Inc. as a salesman in 1999.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sarah Sandlin McKay; his daughters Diane McKay Buko and her husband, Steve; and Selisa McKay Wright and her husband Alan; and six grandchildren, Stephen, Morgan, and Spencer Buko, and Will, Annie and Own Wright. Other survivors include his sister, Kathleen Dillion of Bon Secour, Alabama and her husband John; his brother Doug McKay of Valley, Alabama and his wife, "Shug" and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held Friday, December 1, 2006 at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville, Alabama at 2:00 PM with the burial following the service. Visitation will be held immediately before the funeral from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.  Honorary pall bearers will include members of the Friends in Faith Sunday School Class of McElwain Baptist Church.

Flowers may be sent to Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home or in lieu of flowers donations may be made to McElwain Baptist Church.
