Bud Reeves - Age 84 - Saltillo, MS

Winfred "Bud" Reeves, 84, of Saltillo, Mississippi, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, at Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. He was born Sept. 19, 1922, in Lee County to Arthur Reeves and Lilly May Brooks Reeves. He was a retired employee of Lee Sports Wear where he had worked in the cutting department. He attended Barnes Crossing Baptist Church but was a member of Beech Springs Freewill Baptist Church. He loved to fish, watch boxing and rodeos and listening to music.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Saltillo Chapel of W. E. Pegues with the Rev. Tommy Whaley officiating. Burial will be in the Fellowship Cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Glinda Horton and Tommy of Saltillo; one son, Ray Reeves and Peggy of Saltillo; one sister-in-law, Ruby Reeves of Saltillo; one brother-in-law, Sam Brown and Earnestine of Frankstown; six grandchildren, Tammie Reeves Knott and Allen of Hackleburg, Ala., Sonya Hanna and Jeremy of Booneville, Christi Horton of Saltillo, Chris Horton and Dana of Birmingham Ridge, Dean Perry Jr. and Kim of Wren and Kimberly Ray and Jimmy of Nettleton; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 61 years who died Nov. 10, 2006, Lela Rae Reeves; one sister, Alice Vinson; and one brother, Leland Reeves.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time today at the Saltillo Chapel of W. E. Pegues Funeral Home.

Dellar Foster Downey - Age 78 - Sulligent, AL

Dellar Foster Downey, age 78, of Sulligent, Alabama died Sunday, December 3, 2006 in the Care Center Of Vernon.

Born in Sulligent, AL. She is the Daughter of the late John and Minnie Stockman and the Wife of the Late J. D. Downey. She had lived in Sulligent all of her life and was a member of the Peoples Tabernacle.

She had worked for McCoy Manufacturing for 36 years before retiring.

She is survived by 5 Daughters, Mary Blaylock, Sue (Terry) Maybery, Shelia Taylor all of Sulligent, AL, Charlotte (Kevin) Upton of Hamilton, AL, and Diane (Butch) Oliver of Rockford, IL, 2 Sons, Robert Foster of Sulligent, AL and Perry Foster of Vernon, AL, 21 Grandchildren, 30 Great Grandchildren and a special friend and caregiver, Faye Otts.

Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by 2 Daughters, Betty Blair, and Patsy Rainey and a host of other children she cared for.

Services held Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at 2:00 PM from the Norwood Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Bro. Philip Blaylock and Bro. Billy Ray Adams officiating.

Jim C. Brown - Age 83 - Corinth, MS

Jim C. Brown, 83, of Corinth, Mississippi, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville.

He was very active in the community ministering to others. He was a people person. He was an active member of the Booneville Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. He enjoyed gardening.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the McPeters Funeral Directors Chapel with Minister Lecil Pierce officiating. Burial will be in the Valley of the Dogwood Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Nellova Brown of Corinth; one son, James Allen Brown and wife, Wanda, of Corinth; one sister, Jesmer Boyett of Hamilton, Ala.; one niece, Wanda Grubbs; one nephew, Willard Boyett; his grandchildren, Christopher Richards Brown and wife, Andrea, Jeffrey Rhian Brown and Joel Quentin Brown, all of Corinth, and James Allen Brown II and wife, Irina, of Memphis; his great-grandchildren, Lauren Kaylie Brown, Samuel Hudson Brown and Elizabeth Grace Brown, all of Corinth.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph A. and Jetta Gilmore Brown; and one brother, George Orlander Brown.

Oma Lee Pierce - Age  - Columbus, MS (Native of Marion County, AL)

Oma Lee Pierce of Columbus, Mississippi, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, at Windsor Place in Columbus. She was a native of Marion County, Ala., and the daughter of Francis Marion Stevens and Margaret Elizabeth Summerford Stevens. She spent her adult life in Amory and Columbus.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Nora Knight Johnson (David) of Jackson and Martha Knight Wallis (Bob) of Columbus; one stepson, Charles Pierce of Wakefield, R.I.; one stepdaughter, Sandra Pierce of Laurel; three grandchildren, Leigh and Chris Johnson of Jackson, and Robert Wallis (April) of Natchez; two step grandchildren, Darren and Amy Pierce; three step great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. today at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Columbus.

Memorials may be made to the Philwood Suites at Windsor Place or a charity of the donor's choice.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Oren Knight and Charles Ellington Pierce.

Clement Lee Markham - Age 93 - Okeechobee, FL   

Clement Lee Markham, age 93, of Okeechobee, Florida, died Thursday, December 7, 2006 in FL.

He was born December 13, 1912 in Lamar County, AL and had lived in Beaverton and Guin. Mr. Markham married his beloved wife, Rubye in 1935 and moved to Belle Glade, FL in 1945 and was employ by Wedgeworth Farms, Inc. until his retirement in 1978. He enjoyed woodworking and crafted several grandfather clocks, violins and guitars, which he loved to play. Mr. Markham was a charter member and Deacon of Trinity Free Will Baptist Church in Okeechobee, FL.
 
He is survived by a Daughter, Carolyn (Bill) Grindstaff of Okeechobee, FL, A Son, Scottie (Jackie) Markham of Mt. Dora, FL, 3 Grandsons, Mark Grindstaff, of Okeechobee, FL, Jeff (Carol) Grindstaff of Erwin, NC and Scott Grindstaff of Creedmoor, NC, 2 Granddaughters, Stephanie (Laz) Figueroa of Miami, FL and Dana Cash of Mt. Dora, FL, 3 Great Grandsons, Wade, Grayson and Ethan, A Sister, Mary Lou Greenhill of Tuscumbia, AL

Lonnie Huggins, Jr. - Age 71 - Hackleburg, AL

Lonnie Huggins, Jr., Age 71 of Hackleburg, Alabama, died December 7, 2006 at Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield, AL. 

He was born December 24, 1934 in Tishomingo County, MS to the late Myrtle (Reynolds) and Lonnie Huggins, Sr.  He was a Logger.

Funeral services were held Saturday, December 9, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hackleburg Church of Christ in Hackleburg, AL with the body lying in state from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. before the services.  Bro. Michael Lane and Bro. Ed White officiated.  Burial was in Union Hill Cemetery in Hackleburg.

Visitation was Friday, December 8, 2006 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Hackleburg Church of Christ. 

Mr. Huggins was survived by his wife, Ruby (Burleson) Huggins of Hackleburg, AL, 3 sons, Richard A. (Mary) Huggins of Hackleburg, AL, William L. (Sandra) Huggins of Florence, AL and Danny W. Wilma Lou Palmer O'Neal - Age 78 - Birmingham, AL (Formerly of Hamilton, AL) 
 
Wilma Lou Palmer O'Neal, age 78, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed from this life on December 8, 2006 after a short illness.

She was a lifelong resident of Alabama, having been born in Hamilton and moving to Birmingham in 1946 to attend the Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. She retired from being an RN to be a mother and raise two children. Wilma was a member of, and active Altar Guild worker in, Christ Episcopal Church in Fairfield for many years. In later years she frequented St. Matthews Anglican Church and St. Mary's-on-the-Highlands Episcopal Church. She was active in several Garden Clubs, flower arranging groups and studied Japanese flower arranging.

She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Johnson Younger O'Neal, Jr., son, James Patrick O'Neal, daughter, Peggy Ann O'Neal (both of Birmingham), and granddaughter, Catherine Elizabeth O'Neal (Oxford, MS). A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 18, 2006 at 11:30am at St. Mary's-on-the-Highlands Episcopal Church, 1910 12th Avenue South, with The Reverend Huey Gardner officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to any charitable cause.

Angel Marie Darracott, 24, of Hamilton, Alabama passed away December 8, 2006 at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi. 

Angel was born June 29, 1982 in Tupelo, Mississippi to Mary Holmes and Ernest Darracott.  She worked at Buccaneer Manufacturing.  She was a Baptist.

James (Jimmy) Everett Campbell, 68, of Hamilton, Alabama passed away December 9, 2006 at his residence. 

Mr. Campbell was born November 19, 1938 in Walker County Alabama to Josie Holcomb and Floyd Campbell. He was a machine operator with NTN and a Veteran.

Services were held at the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel Sunday, December 10, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. with viewing just prior to the service from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the chapel and burial in the Hamilton City Cemetery.

Edward McCarley, 79, of Hamilton, Alabama died December 12, 2006 at Marion Regional Hospital in Hamilton, AL. 

He was born August 17, 1927 in Marion County Alabama to Dora Tice McCarley and the late Floyd McCarley. He was a Farmer and a Truck Driver.

Services were held Thursday, December 14, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Antioch Church, Hamilton, Alabama with burial in Antioch Church Cemetery. Bro. Elvis Cochran and Bro. Randal Tice officiated. Visitation was Wednesday, December 13, 2006 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Antioch Church, Hamilton,       AL.

Along with his wife, Stella Jackson McCarley, he is survived by 3 children: Charlotte (Allen) Yielding, Joan (Dwayne) Kurasaka and Stanley McCarley; his mother, Dora McCarley; 5 sisters: Mary Lou Lynch, Maxine Lockhart, Nell Ingle, Geraldine Green, and Polly Easter; 7 brothers: Elton, Alvis, James, Dwight, Elmon, Rex and Danny McCarley; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Jack Waymon Jackson - Age 73 - Hamilton, AL

Jack Waymon Jackson, 73, of Hamilton, Alabama passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at Northwest Medical Center in Winfield, Alabama. 

Jack Jackson was born May 22, 1933 to the late Neetie Sullins and Edward "Ed" Levi Jackson. 

Jack was a Veteran and held several jobs in his life but the most recent was a Fireman with the Hamilton Fire Department in Hamilton, Alabama. He was an accomplished musician and played the Banjo to the delight of many. When things were quiet around the Hamilton City Hall, I hear that you might have found Jack playing his Banjo. Of course one ear was always trained on the radio and telephone for a fire call! Jack played with several bands including Carmol Taylor and Country Boy Eddie on his television show out of Birmingham, Alabama. All who knew him will truly miss Jack.

Viewing at the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel, Friday, December 15, 2006 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. and Services to be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 16, 2006 at the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Bill Hall will be the officiating minister. Burial will be in Sullins School House Cemetery Northeast of Hamilton.

Loy Ridings Lawhon, 95, of Hamilton, Alabama passed away December 14, 2006 at her residence. 

She was born March 26, 1911 to the late Dovie (Ballard) & George Andrew Ridings.  Ms. Lawhon was a Homemaker.

Funeral Services were held Saturday, December 16, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hamilton United Methodist Church in Hamilton with burial in Hamilton Memory Gardens.  Bro. Mac Buttram officiated. Visitation was Saturday, December 16, 2006, just prior to services, from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the Hamilton United Methodist Church.

Survivors include 3 children:  James Ed Lawhon, Ernestine Lawhon, and Jerry Shaw; 7 Grandchildren; 9 Great Grandchildren; and 2 Sisters:  Hattie Williams and Bonnie Karr.

Along with her parents, Ms. Lawhon was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Edwin "Ed" Lawhon.

Her Grandsons served as Pall Bearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be made to the American Heart Association Fund.

Hortense Goggans Mitchell, age 89, formerly of Bexar, Alabama, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2006. Internment at the Goggans Cemetery, Bexar Alabama.

She was born Monday, December 3, 1917, one of 9 children of Genera and Cliffton Goggans.

She was preceded to Heaven by her husband Webster Andrew Mitchell ,Hamilton Alabama, sisters Lenore Britnell, Birmingham, Ala and Eleanor Peeler of Florence, Ala. brothers Kenneth Goggans, Bexar Ala - Cliffton Goggans, Birmingham, Ala.

Mrs. Mitchell's survivors are son, Charles Mitchell (wife Carolyn) Houston, Texas, daughter Kay Pedrett, (husband Robert) and grandson Jacob Pedrett of Sugar Land, Texas, sisters, Mary Annis Cammack, Glovon Poole, Willodean Creel of Birmingham, Alabama. and brother Henry Goggans of Tampa Florida.

She retired from the Alabama Highway Department after 15 years of dedicated service.

Ottis Lee "Otto" Williamson, age 71, of Hamilton, Alabama, formerly of Birmingham, AL, passed December 22, 2006.

He was born November 7, 1935 in Alabama to Ruby (Lambert) and Orbie Williamson.  He was a Veteran and he was a retired Banker.  He served as a Branch Manager at Compass Bank.  Mr. Williamson was a member and a Deacon at Shiloh Baptist Church.

Mr. Williamson is survived by his wife, Louise Gann Williamson, two daughters, Mrs. Diane Stewart (Gary) and Mrs. Kelly Bryant (Mike) and six grandchildren, Katie, Holly, Matt, and David Stewart and Ginny and Becca Bryant; and a Brother, Jerry Williamson.

Betty Mae White Moseley - Age 89 - Montpelier, MS

Betty Mae White Moseley, 89, of Montpelier, Mississippi died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006, at Dugan Memorial Home in West Point, MS.

She was born May 16, 1917, in Chickasaw County to the late Lela Brand White and Joe White. She worked at Rice Sticks in Houston and Knickerbocker Manufacturing in West Point. She was a member of Palestine United Methodist Church. She married Jackson Moseley on Nov. 11, 1942, in West Point. He preceded her in death on July 4, 1995.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Palestine United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harold Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Palestine Cemetery at Montpelier. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include one brother, Odie "Bill" White of Montpelier; seven nieces, Glenda Nadeau and Carol Sims, both of Montpelier, Nora Gayle Bennett of Columbus, Ga., Jamie Middleton of West Point, Dixie Shirley of Columbus, Suzanne Goodwin of Jasper, Ala., and Joan White of Aliceville, Ala.; eight nephews, Ernest White, Dennis White and Kenny White, all of West Point, Everette White of Columbus, David White of Natchez, Dale White of Huntsville, Ala., Butch White of Hamilton, Ala., and Russell White of Montpelier.

Bobbie Jean Brown, 70, of Bagley, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2006, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham.

Bernice Gerlene Wade Kirby, 74, of Hackleburg, passed away Monday, December 25, 2006. Mrs. Kirby went home to be with the Lord on Christmas Day.

She was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilkins Kirby; her parents, Monie and Ila Annie Belle Swinney Wade; three brothers, Eugene, Jerry and Olen Wade; and a sister, Vernie Mae Sparks.

John Merle West - Age 77 - Florence, AL

FULTON - John Merle West, 77, of Florence, Ala., died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at Golden Living Center in Amory after a long illness.

He was born Nov. 2, 1929, in Haleyville, Ala. He played football at Haleyville High School, Itawamba Junior College and Florence State
Teachers College. He was a retired coach and teacher after 40 years, and a basketball and wrestling official. He served in the National Guard, Navy Reserve and ROTC. He was a member of the AHSAA, AEA, Florence Golf and Country Club, UNA Sportsman's Club, Winston County Sports Hall of Fame, Lauderdale County Sports Hall of Fame, American Legion, Alabama Golf Association and the Baptist church.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Itawamba Memorial Cemetery in Fulton. Bro. Bryan McIntyre will officiate.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Greta Lou Hankins West; one daughter, Marla Jo LeDoux (Roger) of Leesville, La.; one son, John Stanton "Scooter" West of Jacksonville, Ill.; one grandson, Zachary West of Jacksonville, Ill.; three granddaughters, Regan West and Kaileigh West, both of Jacksonville, Ill., and Lorene Marie LeDoux of Leesville, La.; one stepgrandson, Brandon LeDoux (Jeni) of Elk Grove, Calif.; two stepgranddaughters, Leticia LeDoux of Huntsville, Ala., and Alisa LeDoux Cottle (Billy) of Albuquerque, N.M.; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Zachary, Claire and Sophia LeDoux of Elk Grove, Calif.; one sister, Sue Akers (Ronald) of Tuscumbia; two brothers, Jerry West of Muscle Shoals and Marshall West (Gayle) of West Plains, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Joyce West of Hamilton, Ala.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Denver and Lorene West; three brothers, Russell, Billy and Don West; and two sisters, Mary Lou West and Yvonne Bradford.

MR. MOMAN LEE VAUGHN, age 87, of Pinson, passed away on December 30, 2006.

He was a member of 25th Avenue Baptist Church and retired from Hannah Steel. He was an Army Medic in World War II.

Samuel Leon Kennedy, age 81 of Sulligent, AL died Thursday, December 28, 2006 at his residence.

Born in Lamar County to the late E.P. and Lula Spruiell Kennedy. He was a member of the Union Ridge Free Will Baptist Church and a veteran of WW ll serving in the Army. He retired from Vista Chemical Plant in Aberdeen, MS and was a resident of the Pine Springs Community all of his life.

Sarah Clement - Age 24 - Birmingham, AL

Sarah Clement, 24, of Birmingham, Alabama, formerly of Russellville, AL., went home to be with her Lord on Friday, December 29, 2006 in Birmingham.

The daughter of John and Jan McColl Clement, she was born May 9, 1982 in Clarksville. Sarah was an outstanding athlete, and was a member of the Russellville High School varsity basketball, varsity track and varsity golf team. She was named to the Arkansas All-State Girls Basketball and Track Teams in both her junior and senior years in high school. She was admitted to the RHS Athletic Hall of Fame that same year. She was further honored by RHS with the establishment of the RHS Sarah Clement Women's Athletic Sportsmanship Award, to be awarded annually beginning in 2006. She received her bachelor of science in pre-medicine in 2005 from Samford University in Birmingham. She was a member of the Samford University varsity basketball team and the varsity track team from 2000-2005 and was Team Captain for the Samford Women's Basketball Team in 2004-2005. She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority and Lambda Delta Honor Society and Chi Alpha Sigma National Honor Society. She was also a member of the Samford University Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Russellville and attended Church of the Highlands in Mountain Brook, Alabama.

She was preceded by her paternal grandparents, W.J. and Thelma Clement and maternal grandfather, Allan C. McColl.

She is survived by her parents, John and Jan Clement, Russellville; two sisters, Meghan Clement, Orlando, Florida, Amy Clement Sasser and her husband Gordon, Prarie Grove; maternal grandmother, Ernestine McColl, Chattanooga, TN; aunts and uncles, Ginny Nevins and husband John, Atlanta, GA; Bruce McColl and wife Lynn, Tuscaloosa, AL, Mike McColl, Chattanooga, TN, Mark McColl and wife Margaret, Birmingham, AL; a nephew, Louis Sasser, Prarie Grove; nine first cousins; extended family, William Iraheta and wife, Elizabeth and their children, Jacqueline, Chris, Erica and Sarah of Danville.

Trillian Scott - Age - Fulton, MS

Trillian Scott died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2006, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Hamilton, Ala.

She was the daughter of the late John and Betty Johnson Scott. She was a retired school teacher, having taught in the Itawamba County School District for 43 years. She was a long-time active member of Trinity Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She was a member of the Edelweiss Garden Club and the Itawamba Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed growing flowers and gardening.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Baptist Church with Dr. Don Baggett and Dr. Ed Deuschle officiating. Burial will be in the Itawamba Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Survivors include one niece, Ann Tyra (L. E.) of Hamilton, Ala.; one great-niece, Michelle Shaver (Jim) of Oxford; one great-nephew, Scott Tyra (Ali) of Hamilton, Ala.; one great-great-niece, Annsley Tyra; and three great-great-nephews, Trey Shaver, Hunter Shaver and Spencer Tyra.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Burnell W. Scott; and two sisters, Carmelle Gregory and her twin, Lillian Scott.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.

W. E. Cox Jr. - Age 76 - Westover, AL (Formerly of Hamilton)

W. E. COX, JR., 76, of Westover, AL passed away December 30, 2006 at his home in Westover.

He was born in Hamilton, AL on November 28, 1930 to W. E. Cox, Sr. and Maggie Bell Ballard Cox. He finished high school in Russellville, Alabama where he was a football letterman. W. E. served in the US Air Force from l950--54, then lived and worked in the Birmingham area for 52 years. He retired in l998 as an estimator/buyer, steel fabrication. He married Martha Joan Pair in l960 and fathered four children-three daughters, one son. He now has six grandchildren. W. E. personally built the log house in Westover and has lived there for ten years. Hobbies were hunting and fishing, giving tractor rides to grandchildren, and cultivating a small garden.

Survivors are: Martha Pair Cox, wife; Lorraine Cox Fancher (Chuck), Elaine Cox Abston (Mac), David Douglas Cox, Jannine Cox Gore (Brian), children; Jack B. Cox, brother; Shelley Fancher, Kyle Fancher, Evan Abston, Ethan Abston, Eli Abston, and Preston Gore, grandchildren.

Rhear Gilliland Carter, age 87 of Hamilton, Alabama, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2006 at Marion Regional Nursing Home in Hamilton, Alabama. 

She was born on February 27, 1919 in Marion County, Alabama to the late Henry and Francis Jane (Shotts) Gilliland.  She was a Retired Machine Operator at Tollgate Garment Company in Hamilton.

William Forrest Bowers - Age 79 - Russellville, AL

William Forrest Bowers, age 79, passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2006, of heart failure after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Bowers was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy as a corpsman and then a pharmacist's mate. He enlisted in the Navy the day after Christmas when he was 17 years old. After his career in the Navy, Mr. Bowers worked for Westvaco as an international sales manager. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, and daughter, Sherry.

Mr. Bowers is survived by his three children, five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held on December 31, 2006, by Pinkard Funeral Home in Russellville. Interment was in Franklin Memory Gardens with full military honors.

Peters, Richard - Age 76 - Taylor Ridge, Ill  (Formerly of Blytheville, AR & Hamilton, AL)

TAYLOR RIDGE, IL. - Richard E. Peters, 76, Taylor Ridge, IL., formerly of Blytheville, Ark., died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, at Mercer County Hospital, Aledo, IL.

Graveside services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, with military services. There will be no visitation.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Those wishing to attend the services may meet in the parking area of the Radisson Hotel downtown Moline at 1:30 p.m. prior to processing to the cemetery.

Mr. Peters was born July 29, 1930, in Moline, the son of Camille and Margaret Vogel Peters.

He attended the Rock Island schools and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1947. He served as an aircraft mechanic on different aircraft carriers including the USS Bon Homme Richard. He then served as a flight engineer on the C 130 aircraft where he flew missions over the Pacific until retiring in 1968. As a civilian he was employed as a salesman at Big River Equipment, Bettendorf, retiring and moving to Hamilton, Ala. in 1986.

He and his wife moved to an assisted living military community in Blytheville, Ark. where he served on various organizations and committees. He enjoyed reading mystery novels and playing Mexican Dominoes.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; a daughter, Diane Peters of Auburn, Calif.; a son, Richard Peters and wife Tami of Taylor Ridge; two grandchildren, Aaron Peters of Moline, IL., and Angela Peters of Taylor Ridge; two great-grandchildren, Hailey and Brynn Peters, both of Moline, IL.; a sister, Maryann Wilder of Andalusia, AL.; and a brother, Edward Peters of Rock Island, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son.
