Winfield, AL - James Thelton Holliman, age 85, of Winfield, Alabama, passed away Thursday July 28, 2011.

Visitation, 4:00 p.m., at the Winfield Methodist Church with funeral service to follow at 6:00 p.m., at the church.  Burial in Winfield City Cemetery.

Mr. Holliman is survived by his wife, Vonceal Weeks Holliman, Winfield, AL.; 1 son, George M. Holliman, Tuscaloosa, AL.; 1 daughter, Alice (Oscar) Driver, Alabaster, AL.; 1 grandson, Nathan Scott Owen; 1 great-great grandchild; 1 sister, Lynette Newman, Fayette, AL.; 1 sister-in-law, Kathryn Holliman; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Mr. Holliman served in the US Army during World War II, was a member of the Winfield First United Methodist Church and was an active member of the Winfield Masonic Lodge, Winfield Lions Club and the American Legion.  He served as an officer and as Police Chief in Winfield, Alabama for several years during the 50's, 60's and 70's.  In 1962, he was elected Sheriff of Marion County, Alabama.

At the time of his death, Mr. Holliman was a resident of the Golden Living Center in Winfield, Alabama.
