Ms. Lois Mae Pope Courington

Adrian, MI - Ms. Lois Mae Pope Courington, age 79, of Adrian, Michigan, passed away peacefully Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, surrounded by family and friends at Lenawee Medical Care Facility and under the care of Hospice of Lenawee.
Visitation, 2:00 - 8:00 p.m., Tuesday August 23, 2011
at the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian. Funeral service, 11:00 a.m. Wednesday,
August 24, 2011, at the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian, Michigan. Pastor Greg
Burdine officiating. Burial in Lenawee Hills Memorial Park, Adrian,
Michigan.
Lois was born July 14, 1932, in Hamilton, Alabama, the youngest of 13
children to William "Will" and Phoebe (Sullins) Pope. She moved to Michigan
in 1942 and married Olen Courington in Corinth, Mississippi, on July 5,
1947. She invested her life by working as a homemaker and licensed child
care provider, and she also worked in the kitchen at Bixby Hospital. She
loved camping, fishing, sewing and gardening, but most of all enjoyed
sitting down and talking to friends and family over a cup of good coffee.
She was famous among friends, family and neighbors for her outstanding
peanut brittle every Christmas. She filled her family’s lives with laughter
with her quick wit and music as she loved to sing with the radio. Lois was a
member of Faith Baptist Church of Adrian, and enjoyed volunteering with
Meals on Wheels. She also served as a Bluebird leader.
Lois is survived by 4 sons, Edward (Vicki), Larry (Mary Ann) and Lynn “Kink”
(Robbin) of Adrian, and Steve (Sue) of Onsted; 1 daughter, Julie (Milo)
Warren; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mary Nell
Pope Mays of Hamilton, AL., and Leota Pope Stevenson of Grand Ledge, MI.
She was preceded in death by her husband,
Olen Courington; her parents,
William "Will" and Phoebe (Sullins) Pope; and 10 brothers and sisters.
