Mrs. Ava Nell Pope Nelson
(September 23, 1921 - June 8, 2009)

Ava Nell Pope Nelson, age 87, of Hamilton, Alabama, passed away Monday, June 8, 2009 at Marion Regional Medical Center in Hamilton, Alabama.

Visitation, 6:00 - 9:00 p.m., Thursday, June 11, 2009 at the Hamilton Funeral Home. Funeral service, 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 12, 2009 at the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

She is survived by her children, James B. "Sonny" Nelson, Earl Nelson, Sue Grubbs, Jean Farthing; sisters, Mary Nell Mays, of Hamilton, AL, Lois Courington, and Leota Stevenson, of Michigan; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other friends and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Nelson on May 18, 2009; a son, David Nelson; a daughter, Mary Lowe; grandsons, Billy Nelson, Ryan Albert, Brad Grubbs, and Stephen Nelson; her mother, Phoebe Sullins Pope; her father, William "Will" Pope; 3 brothers, George, Robert and Orville Pope; 3 sisters, Essie Pope, Ethel Green, and Etta Kelly; several nieces, nephews and other dear relatives and friends.
